I would probably make either the Fencer or Cestus (probably Fencer) a therian just to get all the race skills. Or use Masurao instead of Fencer because Fencer is mostly shit.

You are largely alone in EO for the story, since it's more of just a setting to play around for the first two games, but many think like that about U games.
I enjoyed the story though, U2 had some actual character development scenes and I cared about them (Flavio was way underutilized though, Bertrand was the clear best character). It was nice in U1 too for the animated scenes and Gladsheim dungeon too.
Overall the Untolds are good simply because they don't force you into story if you don't like it, with the only fuckup in regards to that being in U1.

Story Mode in both games in an abomination; the only difference is in Untold 2 you can at least treat it like the retarded stepchild and play Classic (AKA - the real game). The only thing you miss out is a shitty Deviantart Class, at least Highlanders were baller and fun to mix in set-ups, Fafnirs are nothing but cancer

Yes, but like I said, it's less of a story and more of a setting for you to draw your own story out of. It was even stated in interviews that they deliberately didn't make it about a character driven plot so that the player could make their own adventure. The untolds don't take this away as they simply add some optional content in the form of story mode, with classic available from the start, the difference is the maps and class skills available.
