WoW's content is optional for every character on your account from the moment it is created and after the first few times going through it there's no reason to ever go through it again unless you REALLY want to because the changes are limited to a handful of things in the later expansions. XIV on the other hand is mandatory for every single character you create regardless of how old your account is, and your choices make literally zero difference on the game world meaning that after the first time there is absolutely no reason to ever go through it again.

Stormblood is pretty casual, but that's sorta what I'm looking for. I don't only play 1 game and I have a job and a life as well. If the game was hardcore I wouldn't have time to play it.

Having played both, I can honestly say XIV's story, while typical cringy jrpg work, is still miles better than WoW's "story".
At least in xiv you the player are the hero of the dungeon/raid/whatever, where as in WoW every time its something major, an npc will killsteal and take the credit with you "helping" them do it.

Are there ANY mmos these days that do have innumerable fetch quests? I want my quests to be an adventure, not a story chain diluted by monotony.

One of the most unresolvable paradoxes in the game is that reasonably the WoL can't be Au Ra or it makes like 3 whole patches of storyline nonsense.

Stuff like the end game areas changing in real time instead of story progression is wonky but ultimately doesn't really affect anything and there are some sidequests that are out of date (worth noting that all SB quests I've seen so far were all written to make sense both before and after the MSQ ending, while HW has a lot of MUH DRAGON WAR that doesn't make any sense by 3.5) but you just have to pretend you're doing them at the right time.

The biggest issue with FFXIV is that theres not playtesting, resulting in many classes either getting buffed too much, or nerfed too much. Also results in a lot of clunky class mechanics and useless buttons.

Also content is getting easier than ever with the latest EX primals being some of the easiest in the game.
