The only RPG you should buy are Bethesda RPGs.

Especially Fallout 4 and Skyrim

Hot damn, thanks for the heads up OP. I've been meaning to play DD.
>>

so do you recommend Gothic 2 ?

I want to buy it
>>
>>382577679
Yes.
>>
>>382577679
Gothic 1 and 2 are literal top tier RPGs (2 is better, but part of the merit is revisiting areas in 1)

I felt DD had some pacing issues, especially early on, but it's still great.

>>
Deus Ex is $1.39. Of course, everyone should have it by now.
>>
>>382577037
Divine Divinity is like the perfect blend between Diablo and Baldurs Gate. Or at least, that's what I thought back in day. Definitely recommended.
>>
>>382577909
How are the RPG aspects of it? Is the story good and do your decisions impact it?
>>
>implying that I don't already own Gothic 1 & 2 and DivDiv
>>
>>382578069
It's not a "omg ur decisions change eveeeerything" kind of game, nor does it pretend to be. However, there are a fair number of quests/segments of the games with multiple methods of completion which gives you some freedom. I didn't find it terribly linear as a result.

Character building is pretty similar to diablo, dialogue is similar to BG
>>
What about gothic 3? Does it compare to 1 and 2?

I loved some of the interactions you could have with the environment, like gathering two bales of hay to make a bed wherever you went, or placing furniture in your inventory, then throwing them at enemies.
Shame about the endgame, but I guess that's what happens when you've got dickass publishers.
>>

Any comfy RPGs in my cart?
>>
>>382581597
Blood Omen 2 is crap and Inquisitor is infuriating. Drakensang is kinda comfy but more in a bland mediocre kind of way.
>>

Amalur is bad. And not in a "/v/ doesn't like it" kind of way, it's genuinely a bad game.

Fable
Divinity 2
>>
>>382582387
Depends. I liked it because it reminded me of the 2D Fallouts and a little bit of Jagged Alliance. It's not a super polished game, though.
>>
>>382581597
Inquisitor has cool grafix and walls of writing that get you into the setting (the description for your defense stat was something like 'keeps you safe from the murderous cultists that fornicate with goats and boil human blood in their basements') but as far as gameplay goes it's pretty darn annoying.
The first boss-like enemy I found had a bajillion HP and made me eat all my potions, and the inventory system itself is pretty aggravating. It's good you're getting it on sale, but you might feel like that 1.39 yurobux weren't as well spent as they could have been.
>>
>>382582221
Fallout is pretty low on the totem pole of difficulty so you better tough it out and soldier on or you're going to be limiting yourself to the most recent experiences. With that said give Morrowind a try, I guess. It's the best game Bethesda made. Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines is another popular RPG that's really good.

Are there any first person RPGs that play like picture related. I don't mean "first person shooter" type of rpgs like Morrowind, or dungeon crawlers like Wizardry or Legend of Grimrock. I mean static pictures, turn based command, and movement is done in map. If you understand what I mean.

Are there any games like this?
>>
>>382582387
Yeah, it's a really good game. However you have to go in with the right attitude, just because it's turn based and post-apocalyptic, it still isn't Fallout, nor does it want to be. It's a game that has great gameplay, character building, exploration, and combat.

I've been playing it on and off. It is pretty comfy since that starter village is a mostly safe area. I'm not sure if you can freely build or only build up existing stuff though. It's a pretty slow progression, but once you figure out the combat things move quicker.
>>

The controls in Gothic are shit, the rest of the game makes up for it but don't act like the combat is something to write home about.

If you like classic Fallout, X-COM, and zombies, you should check out Dead State. Lots of micromanagement and base building like in oldschool X-COM. Lots of drama, lots of violence, and lots of exploration. You can even get yourself and the party infected with the virus, so if you don't treat your wounds well your buddies can turn into zombies.

Dead State is probably the best zombie game ever made. It's not the best RPG, but it's the best RPG game about zombie apocalypse.

Are there any good scenarios for the new shadowrun games?
>>
I hardly play games anymore but I was thinking of getting Final Fantasy IX since I've never played it but I was wondering about how long the game itself is approximately.
>>
>>382588767
Short answer? Almost everything.

Long answer, everything that made the first two games good. Instead of a small, hand-crafted world it went for Bethesda-style large open world, except even larger, and even emptier than Bethesda's own. The game is beyond broken with terrible optimization and bugs up the ass, although a few GBs worth of community patches can make it at least unction well enough that things work more often than they not, CTDs only a little more often than most games prone to CTDs, and you might even be able to finish the game without all of your save files getting corrupted. Yup. It has horrible itemization (only 4 pieces of unique hand-placed loot in the entire game) and no thought put into encounter design. Combat could have worked in concept, but doesn't in practice. Everything is floaty, and feels like shit, which is not a good thing when the game forces you to fight waves upon waves of combat situations where it keeps spawning enemies at you until it's satisfied that you've killed about a hundred or two and mercifully ends it. It has no content worth experiencing, with everything coming down to reputation grind through endless "kill numeral adjective noun(s)" and "collect numeral noun(s)" any time, anywhere. No, it never gets better than that. Dialog was kept to a minimum, story makes no sense, lore was retconned to hell and back, previous main characters barely exist and if they do you might not even recognize them if not for the name. The most important character in the series and in this game as well has so few lines I could put all of it in a single post without exceeding character limit.

Any questions?

From best to worst in order

Good shit
Wonder Boy Dragon's Trap (2017 indie GOTY)
Bayonetta (Fucking great except the gimmick levels are too long, and one specific duo of common enemies are deceptively fuck-you hard)
Hitman 2016 (just incredible, a true return to form, tons of options for killing, but short at only six levels)

Decent shit
Nier Automata (godly soundtrack, good story, I hate the sandbox meme and limited color pallete, no challenge once you self-heal)
DeBlob 2 (kinda repetitive, gameplay improved but the music, the tru shit, took a huge hit)
Quantum Break (kinda generic, I enjoyed the live-action episodes a lot more than the game)
Nex Machina (kinda boring, way too short, just another twinstick shooter game, forgettable)
Neptune-Sega Hard Girls (another neptune game, you either hate them or you can enjoy them. The best spinoff in the series though, plays like one of the regular games mostly)
Walking Dead 3 (Now your choices mean even less XDDD)
Batman Telltale (decent, but held back by some horrible optimization, frame stutter, poor voicing, story too rapid and rushed what the fuck)

Shit
Fallout 4 (best game ever: Buzzfeed XDDD)
Tales of Berseria (here's another cooridor dungeon with the same shitty combat! Miles better than zestiria though, symphonia will always be the best)
Night in the Woods (fucking kill me)

OH shit I forgot to mention Prey.

Stick that in the Good shit category right around Hitman 2016. The first few hours are so intimidating, but it suffers from a bit of falloff at the end. There's an irresponsibly large number of boring sidequests for me to ignore but if you're into that sort of email reading snooping shit then this will be right up your alley. Guns lack a bit of variety but I fucking loved exploring all the rooms one at a time. That's my shit.

Also RIME, almost forgot about that one. IT's a rather boring, slow plodding walking simulator with only half decent puzzles. The whole game reminds me of Uncharted (but without the third person shooting). Those sort of environmental puzzles and shit. There's virtually no fail state so it's ideal for relaxing. It's got a couple decent scenes but it waits for the last second to really ramp shit up hardcore. The game is fairly short so just stick this ine in the middle of decent shit.

Crossbow is not for raw mechanical damage, don't play it like a gun. You should learn to craft special bolts and stun, burn, and poison the shit out of everything. And some other crazy stuff like an end game poison you can only craft with really high biology that creates dopplegangers.

>>
>>382601442
Didn't say that you can't, but you'll only make things harder for yourself. The crossbow's main advantage over guns is its vastly superior crowd control, but when it comes to mechanical damage, since it doesn't have any way to bypass mechanical resistance like W2C bullets, it just can't compete. And later in the game high mechanical resistance is far from rare.

Gothic will tell you to shut up and do what you've been told, or the quest giver will kick the living shit out of you, take your money, then tell you to do what you've been told anyway.

That is, until you become strong enough to turn the tables, kick the shit out of them, take their money, and do the fucking job themselves.

If you want any sort of fulfillment outside of grinding for the sake of grinding at end game, then absolutely not. Also, the quests are fucking HORRENDOUS, so it's a game that is based solely on how long it takes for you to realize nothing in the game is hard, so it's just like playing a shitty DMC game with"levels"

In all honesty, I found it boring and couldn't even stand to play the beta until it ended.

If you want it, I can give it to you.
>>
>>382604315
Even though I set the second character's personality to be controlled by the AI, it just doesn't feel like a singleplayer character, but a game taking pity on you for not having someone to play MP with. I don't really know how to explain this well.

It probably doesn't help that I did start by playing it in MP before my partner announced he doesn't have the time to continue.

I have a friend I could probably get to play it with me, but he bought us E.Y.E. and we've only played it like twice so far, so this hits close to home and what I think will happen if I get this game and corral him to get it with me :(
>>
got exactly $1 left on steam. what do?
>>
>>382593998
Thanks, anon. Sounds good, but I think I'll play through Arcanum, Arx Fatalis, BG2 and AoD from my backlog first; they seem more fun.

Jesus christ, why would anyone want that.
There's Kyn, but I haven't played it so I can't say if it's any good.

Please feel free to call me a dumbass, if this is a dumb question.

I'm interested in X-Com 2 and I see there is a Digital Deluxe version that has all the DLC, but does that get me the DLC that is coming up where I get to play as a snake person?
Also, is X2 a good game for someone who has never played this style of games?

Are there lewd mods?

Don't you mean Pillars of Eternity?

What IS a good game with something like that?

Oops! Yes, I meant Pillar of Eternity. I've been thinking of diving back into Path of Exile and had a slip-up there because they have the same acronym. Whoops!

I bought morrowind on steam sale and am enjoying it. Any other old school CRPG's I should buy?
>>
>>382605006
I'm sorry. To be honest I don't even know who the multiplayer in this game was meant for. D:OS is a long game. There is a reason why most multiplayer games that aren't MMOs are short or were meant to be played in short sessions.
>>
>there are people on this board who haven't played the RPG classics already
You need to die.

It's great if you get past the learning curve, has a lot of replay ability in it too for 2-3 bucks. Think I have nearly 200 hours in it and I consider myself a casual player.

I want to buy Morrowind

Are you just enjoying vanilla or did you install some mods that I should know about?
>>
>>382605345
I own the deluxe version and the new DLC isnt marked as owned, so I think it isn't included.
It doesnt have a steep learning curve really
I think theres mods at loverslab

You can also just get 1 with all DLC, that's really good as well plus its cheaper
>>
>>382604429
Hyper Light Drifter, they patch it to 60fps so its playable
>>
>>382606079
What is the differences between X1 to 2? Is there like really big quality of life stuff between them, or is it just the same thing with new missions?

I've seen lots of people on these threads say that the second game is just the first one with slightly better graphx and missions.
>>
>>382606435
Not him but if you haven't played the first one I would definitely get that instead of 2

It's super cheap and really good
>>
>>382606050
Check out the TES general. Code patch and patch project for bugfixes
If you come from skyrim and oblivion, you probably will want the mod that makes you run faster
Maybe "Less generic NPCs" (also adds quests)

FTL is very fun once you learn how to play
You want to unlock more ships ASAP though
>>
>>382604285
There's a fan mod/patch that fixes it
>>
>>382607570
Is it worth doing that or should I just emulate that shit/ buy it on ps3?
>>
>>382607675
The mods also improve the gameplay, so do it
