P3 is a very smartly written game. Yukari herself is written to subvert the player's expectation of her (She's the one the game focuses the most early on, and the character that gets the most alone time interaction with the MC up until the beach event).

It's not until after Aigis joins (and usurps Yakari's main heroine role) and Shinji dies that the game sheds it's early skin and shows it's true colors.

It's paced as a slice of life super sentai show at first, until Shinji is murdered and the game shifts gears and the characters internal struggles become the focal point (With Yukari now sharing a joint arc with Mitsuru centered around their families, Junpei becoming a mature man thanks to his relationship with Chidori, and finally getting letting go of the demons his relationship with his father instilled on him, Ken and Akihiko also getting a joint arc of personal development and the MC and Aigis sharing one of self-discovery and purpose.

Of course, this reading of the game only wotkd if you do what the movies smartly did, and disregard gameplay aspects like S.Links. In fact, S.Links are one of the worst things to happen to the series. Just look at what they did to cripple P4's character development.

This isn't about the plot. It's about the way the main characters are written. In P3, the entire cast feels like their own people, aside from Aigis, whose entire main arc happens alongside the MC.

In P4, everyone feels like they're waiting for the MC to solve their problems. There's never any point where we're shown Yosuke and Teddie sitting and talking about their insecurities and problems and bonding with each other. We never see Yukiko telling Chie about her doubts as far as inheriting the inn. Kanji's romantic interest in Naoto and their entire arc literally turns a running gag as soon as she joins because she has to be available for the MC to romance (Despite how powerful it is for Kanji to have fallen in love with her regardless of gender, and how it ties into her own insecurities about gender roles. It's never explored). We never see Kanji and Rise interacting despite characters talking about how she spends most of her time hanging out with him and at his place (to the point where NPCs at school ask you if they're dating). A weird cooky dude who's into feminine housework and hobbies but has no ideia how to talk to women and a retired sheltered idol who puts on a bubbly face but acts as her mean self around him. That's great stuff and we're never shown it.

It's all about Yu. I legitimaly think that P4 would've been better if Kanji was the main character.

I dont really see the problem people have with it, get some personas, save and reload until you make a persona with a decent heart item, gear your team up and blast the last boss away.

I just had finished digital devil sage before playing the answer, and compared to DDS endless grinding bullshit, the answer is rather fast and easy, and getting to battle the mc as a boss was fun.

Dont know why people have such a problem with the answer, just farm the right personas and you can easily clear the game.

I guess I might stick with it a bit longer since I do like the story, it's just that as of where I currently am there's nothing really to pull me along since it's just fight after fight after fight. I've now gotten to a mid-boss that I'd easily be able to wipe up with full party control but can't quite top unless I get lucky and my teammates do exactly what I need them to, so I'm kind of dreading grinding the last 13 floors it took to get to him again just so they're strong enough to deal with it. I don't really play a lot of JRPGs so that might be why I hate the idea of grinding, plus the Persona games have never really required it in my experience.

The Answer's a lot harder than the rest of the game for sure, but it's not like it's insurmountable. Just annoying with it's Evade (Element) skills.

There's some real great scenes coming up near the end which I can't really describe without spoiling and there's two tracks in particular that sound amazing to look forward too.
I had Metis to power my will to beat The Answer.
