The only fun thing about it is actual combat, especially on harder difficulties - scanning for weakpoints, precisely aiming and shooting them for damage, combining different ammo and weapons, it's awesome, no complaints there. But all the rest is so meh - the story, the shoehorned elements from popular games (we just can't have an open world game without pointless RPG elements and dialogue wheels, bandit camps, towers and fucking witcher sense in every single quest, can we?). The graphics and backstory are okayish, but the rest is as mediocre as it can get. Glad I got the game on a sale, I'd be butthurt if i paid full price for it.

The game just wasted my time to say how much above other games it is because it realizes how stupid vidya tropes are, instead of actually trying to provide me with good gameplay.
Combat had decent ideas put into it to vary turn-based with mini-games (although that's questionable to begin with since turn-based combat is put into games to eliminate randomness of reflex gaming and make player rely on strategy), but too often that part too was taken over because the creator couldn't help but jack off to his knowledge of video games and try to fuck with me.

I think the Geralt example is better for this discussion. The thing is, and without getting into politics or the "why," males are considered to be the default protagonists. You can play all of the Witcher games, not being particularly interested in the story, and the stuff about Witchers being shunned and ostracized can go completely unnoticed. It's bad writing, and it violates the source material, but essentially makes him into a blank slate that the player can project whatever features they want on to. Most games tend to(or tendED to) go this route by way of acknowledgement that their story content was on the weak side compared to other media.

Aloy is not your typical blank slate hero. The story goes out of its way to make her being a female outcast an integral part of her character, in addition to implicitly being unusual in a metatextual sense simply because there aren't as many games(particularly with this kind of gameplay and plot) with female heroes. Her writing is roughly on par with Geralt(honestly due to certain lines I'd say it's slightly worse, but for argumentation's sake let's say they're even), but whereas Geralt is simply a meatdoll to serve as the player's interface to the world, Aloy is supposed to be her own person with a character arc and story that are trying to make a statement. It is absolutely fair and reasonable that she be held to a higher standard. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that giving her a pass simply because she "breaks the mold" or supposedly champions progressive ideals is actually a disservice to true progressivism. It's hypocritical at best.

I agree with your points, the story and voice acting of Origns were great. Still, i think Origins it's at the bottom for the following reasons:

>badly designed open world, doesn't feel like the real Gotham city, it feels fake, or like being in Arkham City again, the snow effects were cool, but i think Origins will have been better as level based game, since the indoor levels were fantastic

The batmobile was great, and Knight had the best combat and predator. It only needed better bossfights and less repetitive sidequests. It got too big for it's own good, something Origins suffer from too.
