I think the Elves are way more desperate than is shown. They literally can't catch up to men in terms of numbers. Mer become infertile when their population reaches a certain density. So in all those years of peace, men's numbers increase all the time while mer stagnate. Now that the mer become fertile due to population loss, they still take longer to mature and start reproducing. When the next generation of mer reaches maturity, men born at the same time already have children.

The Dragonborn more than likely will become the new emperor. Through his age he's seen that when dragons challenge there will be a new Dragonborn to come forward through reincarnation or whatever you want to call it.

He'd be a fool to even try it.

Does every game need to have choices that effect the future in massive sprawling plots that span games to "matter"?
Is it to much to ask that fighting for one side or the other gives a bunch of missions, changes lots of character dialogue and has actual events (battles) happen right in front of you to count as a choice that mattered?

What are the actual gameplay differences of picking either Imperial or Stormcloaks? I was actually looking this up this morning, but all I find is lore debates.

Why is the idea of having your choices matter a "meme?" Choices you make should have some impact in a game. Otherwise, why have the choice.

That being said I'm not talking choices across multiple games like Mass Effect tried and failed miserably at but critical choices in a game should have some impact to how people treat you and deal with you in the future.
