The headsets, requirements, cost, games, experience etc
>>
Amazing technology ruined by jews.
>>
It's great, but currently the resolution of HMDs is low: detail on screen is blurry and limited, and the screen door effect distracts from the experience. Higher fields of view would be a nice improvement.
>>
It's a great technology, but it's still in too early stage. It needs constant growth, like the 3d on the break of the century, and even more importantly freedom of platform, but since distribution is in the hands of large corporations they're too focused on profit to let it properly grow.

>current resolution is too low
http://www.pimaxvr.com/
pimax has a 4k headset out, and are currently working on a 8k one
>>
I actually played it unlike most shitposters here and its hell of a lot of fun if you arent playing the gimmick "experience" games where u just watch things happen or toss a few props around. The games done right are really awesome.
>>
>>382552227
>only 399
holy shit
>>
>>382552227
I am aware, and the 8K is something I'm looking forward to, but from what I've heard the current 4K version has some compatibility issues with steamvr controllers and titles, lack of positional tracking, and the lower refresh rate and interpolation (not actual 4k, HDMI 1,4 can't do it) are a turn-off.
>>
>>382553371
That's the problem though, there are so little games done right, even less that would last for longer than an hour.
>>
>>382552227
enjoy your 60fps cancer

Well thats because VR is starting to follow the Kinect death spiral:

Game developers / companies are not sure if VR is a worthwhile investment when the normal type of games are more risk-free, easy and have a larger audience, and the consumers are not sure whether or not they should drop upwards of $600 on a VR headset when there might not even be any good games or anything worthwhile on it. It's just an infinite stalemate leaving the platform holders to keep up the market which will never work out for a long time.

i built my first one myself as well.
it was more like the original carmack/palmer prototype, using ski goggles a similar panel, and the same Hillcrest tracker with modified firmware for faster refresh time. and that convinced me enough to start my little vr headset menagerie

I think it has a lot of potential. I'm foolishly optimistic for it still. The price tag is too big a barrier to entry right now though. Bring it down to maybe 300-500 dollars and it'll take off. I really want a rig myself and it'll end up costing me about 1100-1200 Trudeau fun bucks. Those VR game rooms they have in some buildings are good though, a nice way to introduce it to the market and get it into the zeitgeist.

Price point then move beyond shitty waggling. Just make normal ass games but put in VR. Get fancier with the VR once it's better established. Baby steps.

No games.
It's fun for /g/, but not so fun for the average /v/ shitposter
a lot of amazing demos/concepts on itch.io
simulators/arizona sunshine/pew-pew rooms
VorpX not worth it
>>
>>382553792
its not real 4k

the panel is 4k, but it only displays upscaled 1080p

also it has no spatial head tracking so its really stretching to call it VR
>>
Enough people have bought it to ensure its prolonged existance.
Maybe people actually start making games for it once the tech advances.
Only thing I want to use them for is Dreams.

That's because the software is not created specifically for this.
This is going to be another downfall of VR, in my opinion. You can argue that fragmenting the community will create competition and get more people onboard with VR, but I don't think there really is enough people to fragment into "Vive" or "Oculus" or the number of other VR headsets with their own individual bells and whistles that need specific software support.
>>
I got a Vive, I really dig it, but as everyone has said there really needs to be better content, too many games get a pass because VR
