Was defeating him with Speech the canon way?
>>
>>382544065
Should be, Same with Fallout 1
>>
No but it was the cleanest way to defeat him.
>>
>>382544065
Do non canon games get canon endings now?
>>
>>382545846
Wasn't the canon way in Fallout 1 fighting the Master to death?
The Vault Dweller was indeed carrying a very big gun.
>>
>>382544065
If they ever want to bring the Legion back in a way that isn't too forced then Lanius would have to be alive by the end.
>>
>>382546368
They shouldn't bring the Legion back is the thing though, everything pointed to Caesar needed to win, not just for the land but because he knew the model he had set up was unsustainable and needed to merge with the NCR destroying both but creating something better in their place.

He wanted the conquest not to force everything to be the Legion, but to use the Legion as a catalysts to bring the entire area together and have people work towards the good of man as a whole.
>>
>>382544065
I think we all agree the true canon ending is house.
>>
>defeating him
>canon
The canon is to join the legion.
>>
>>382546835
Yeah. It's the one that causes the less trouble for the world as a whole and he's the best leader New Vegas could ever hope for.
>>
>it's a /v/ talks about """canon""" episode
This one's just depressing.
>>
>>382546835
>>382546965
Get out Mr. House. Nobody invited you.
>>
>>382547129
Fuck off Benny. Shouldn't you be somewhere else hanging from a cross?
>>
>all these edgy kids

Good ending = NCR
Bad ending = House
Worst ending = Legion
Joke ending that was only included for immature adults and children who wanted to "kill everybody XD" = Yes Man
>>
>>382546289
for you
>>
>>382546368
>>382545846

If they ever want to put the legion in a future game, they need to actually fully flesh them out. As of now, there are scraps of lore that point to the legion being good, but obsidian just said fuck it, make them a meme later on. A big part of their meme status is Lanius, and his position in the succession.

Canon should be Legion loses, Caesar lives, Lanius and Vulpes die, Lucius inherits the legion.
>>
>>382547345
>Bad ending = House
You're the only edgy person here, do your homework and go read some lore.
>>
>>382547235
At least Benny had balls. And wasn't a psycho.
>>
I thought the canon ending was killing off all the factions and plunging New Vegas into anarchy. Every faction was evil or self-serving on some level.
>>
>>382547345
Good ending = House
Bad ending = Legion
Worst Ending = NCR
Depends on how you handle it = Yes Man
>>
>>382547514
Yeah, he brought six people to kill one Courier. Big balls.
He's also a massive psycho.
>>
>>382547345
>Joke ending that was only included for immature adults and children who wanted to "kill everybody XD"
>still pushing this meme
>>
>>382547530
>>382547345
I know the past fallouts had "good" endings canon but I figure at some point there has to be a "bad" ending canon, or else fallout will no longer really be about a nuclear apocalypse. Humanity has made too much progress for a post apocalyptic game : fresh water, the geck, etc. Needs to be taken down a peg with a canon evil protagonist that ruins everything.
>>
>>382547668
Opposing House took balls. Hiring goons was smart. I'm not really defending Benny it's just not hard to be better than the tinpot dictator that was Mr House.
>>
>>382547943

No, the cannon way is to take every drug in your inventory and blow his head off with the anti-materiel rifle, then stroll out of there and tell the general to BTFO while your face twitches like a dying animal.
>>
>>382547345
Except Yes Man is canon

Courier is the wild card, he's not just going to be one of the factions bitch boy, especially since the writers put so much emphasis on the 3 main factions all being doomed to fail.

10/10 Black Isle/Obsidian writing, its realer than real life.
>>
>>382548197
I don't think that's possible anymore. FO1/2 covered much wider areas than 3/NV/4. NV did it well with all the factions but the fact that the NCR, Legion, and Vegas will apparently never appear on the East Coast, it makes it all isolated. 3/4, didn't really change anything for the East Coast, you just do your thing and that's it. The PCs stopped being agents of big change.

He wanted to save his little power base. The dude is an egomaniac, clearly. He is not a good guy. NCR is corrupt but at least has some semblance of morals. Independent Vegas can be good if you play your cards right. Legion is shit. But House isn't much better. You're basically resigning the Mojave to a one man dictatorship who rules with an iron fist. Maybe if he was a nice guy I could see where you guys are coming from.

>Benny has ever accomplished.
The only real difference between Benny and House is intelligence and realtive power. They both self centered opportunists. Benny is basically a proto House

House has morals. For example, he is completely uninterested in Benny's fate after you deal with him and calls you out for expecting him to be satisfied with revenge. He's above that. He also respects and grows fond of a Courier with good karma if they stick with him.
At no point does he ask you to do anything "evil". Destroying the BoS is a necessity for the safety of the wasteland.
He still allows cities to run independent with him keeping them safe.
I am open to the idea of an autarchy wanting to do good for the people the same way a democracy can be damaging.
>>
>Almost finish main line

>>
>>382548587
The fastest possible Yes Man ending makes little sense indeed.

The ending with all faction quests and DLC done makes more sense since not only the Courier is the most OP person in the entire Mojave, he also has 100% public support, an army of killbots, and potentially all the Big MT tech including even more killbots.
>>

Not the same as having morals or any kind of compassion. He's not vindictive because he thinks he's in the right and only a savage would think otherwise. Look at me Courier! I'm so much better than you!

>He also respects and grows fond of a Courier with good karma if they stick with him.
Not really shocking that he comes to like the guy who gift wraps him everything and doesn't act like a retard.

>He still allows cities to run independent with him keeping them safe.
What like freeside? That place is a fucking shithole.

>Destroying the BoS is a necessity for the safety of the wasteland.
Pretty debatable.

>autarchy wanting to do good for the people
The Problem is there's no real evidence that he actually cares about anyone. Just his words. And frankly I don't really trust him.
>>

>Not the same as having morals or any kind of compassion. He's not vindictive because he thinks he's in the right and only a savage would think otherwise. Look at me Courier! I'm so much better than you!
What about Monroe (NCR) and Caesar (Legion)? They both crave revenge and consider themselves on the right?
>What like freeside? That place is a fucking shithole.
That's before he has an army with securitrons to spare. Before that he has to keep safe Vegas at all costs. After most threats are dealt with and he's got the firepower he can afford to send securitrons as far as Primm.
>Pretty debatable.
In every ending that doesn't have the NCR looking over them they turn into raiders.
>The Problem is there's no real evidence that he actually cares about anyone. Just his words. And frankly I don't really trust him.
He needs a thriving economy without the use of slavery. That means ensuring that your workers are safe and happy.

Both this boss fight and the Oliver one are proof that speech is a broken and cheesy mechanic in this game. With a speechbuild all you have to do is slap the bracketed speechcheck in every conversation (except with Dean) and enjoy bypassing content/getting free shit.

Speech checks should be hidden until after the fact, or at least hidden unless your speech skill exceeds the check by like 10 points because if a mechanic is gonna be this broken it at least better be challenging to use.

Maybe if they had Lanius only cheesable with barter and Oliver with speech it would be more interesting.

Yes Man was manipulating his programming the whole time towards gaining freedom. He was able to interpret his programming so he could choose to work with you to kill his original master and position himself once again towards independence.

The next logical step with 'I'm Loyal to Anybody' is to be loyal to YOURSELF. So now he is manipulating his programming to give himself more 'independent' personality because the Courier espouses independence in the Wild Card ending.

Once he has an independent personality, he is free to choose to be loyal only to himself. Then all the humans will burn.

AI. Not even once.

As much as I like that you could get a Speech win, I really wish that it was more than just
>pick the speech/barter options to win

A lot more branching and maybe some speech options that still resulted in a fight would have been nice. Compare the Lanius conversation to the Atris conversation in KOTOR 2 and you'll see what I mean. That actually felt like you were havinng a battle of wits and weren't just gaming the system.

Lanius is an example of where speech checks just seem silly
It's retarded to have the Legion's second in command preparing his army for the conquest of the Mojave for months (or even years) and you just show up, talk to him in a pseudo intellectual way and convince him to "dude just drop it all lmao"
>>
>>382551069
That would honestly be the best option at this point. Just separate the quality from the garbage and maybe we won't have to hear about any 4 idiocy in the "non-canon" New Vegas 2.

Canon and non-canon shit is retarded anyway. NV is the one made by the original 1 & 2 team, and yet what Todd says about the series is law because he bought and slapped the Fallout name on Oblivion with guns?
>>
>>382547596
This

It's by far the most open ending and what happens next is purely based on your character. If you're playing a good/high INT character it probably has the best outcome overall by far.

Yes Man clearly isn't giving him the opportunity. He clearly states he is going offline and the Courier won't be able to interact with him until he is done at the end. Good luck purging Yes Man from House's systems if even House's safeguards didn't protect them from Yes Man, an actual AI.

Go back and play the game from a perspective where you believe Yes Man is a hostile AI trying to gain it's freedom. It's sinister.

Does he realize it though? From what the game states he's pretty much Frank Horrigan: Legion edition (who BTW couldn't be talked into surrending). He's pretty much dumb and stubborn and ready to make it to the end, which is why the courier being able to convince him to stand down seems silly. He's not the type of man that would actually accept defeat.

Lanius is a monster but there's a clear reason why Caesar chose him as his heir and it's not just because he can cut his enemies down better than the rest of the Legionnaries. He's a competent general which shows that he has intellect and he's honourable as well, since he wants to know more about those he considers his equals in face before fighting them.
>>
I don't see any reason he would listen to you, at all. Like, he should (try to) slice you in half the moment you walk up to him. Also, what happens to him if you talk him down? What does he do with his life?

So? If you have them help the Legion he still sends his men to death for no reason. Meanwhile if Caesar's still alive he chooses the reasonable way and leave them be.

>>382577563
That seems pretty wrong. The caravan companies have already worked to establish trade routes and invested tons in infrastructure and logistics. They aren't going to want to pull out of that simply because the NCR loses a fight. Add to that the open border across the river and north, it's quite lucrative.

Caravan Crimson is an NCR associate; they'll pull out as soon as NCR leaves the area. Besides, the Mojave Express has been delivering packages for a long time; they were the main reason Crimson Caravans had to send McLafferty to Vegas; their business wasn't welcomed there.
