Spyro 3 had a good balance between playing minigames and exploring finding the dragon eggs yourself. Even the other parts where you play as other characters involve exploration and collecting.
And personally, I like playing as the other characters. I realize I'm in the minority when I say that. Sheila is my favorite because of her big jump.

if they don't handle the remaster then I have no hope for it. Crash was do-able without Naughty Dog because it has a simpler art direction, one of the biggest things that makes Spyro is its masterful color theory and music. I could barely enjoy the remake music in Crash, yes the original Mutato Muzika score is there but it's not 1:1 which is critical to capture the nostalgic factor, which was the entire point of the remake.
