The game was already riding the diversity train way before it got completely funded. /v/ has been calling it SJW shit since the prototype, and the only character who had their core design changed at all was Vasco.

The character redesigns are mostly simplifying the art, because the ones used for their initial promo art were hard to animate. Removing detailed objects like the dragon cannon on Baozhai, Phoebe losing her curly hair, Qadira losing her face scarf for a white face mask. The reason everyones unhappy with the redesigns, bar Vasco's which is a loaded topic, is just because they look cheaper and because characters like Baozhai feel more generic now.

That's actually wrong, and one of the many reasons this game had multiple signs of going to shit. The game didn't make its funding goal the first time, but the devs begged and cried and got an extension, and then shilled to everyone they could to meet the final stretch. It never should have succeeded in the first place.

Considering nobody knows who the fuck Lab Zero is (outside of /v/, the Skullgirls fanbase, and EvaXephon), I doubt that would have any sort of impact.

Especially given the amount they put on the campaign page. If they had maybe pulled the whole "show interest to private investors" thing (like Bloodstained, Yooka Laylee, Kingdom Come), and put an amount up like $200,000, then maybe more people outside of that core group would've been willing to give it a chance.
