What's the best way to make fast travel balanced? Available towards the end of the game/once you've been to every area? Otherwise it (in general, not for RDR) feels like admitting your open world design is inherently flawed.

RDR has the best fucking gunplay ever. Holy shit it's satisfying with manual aim coupled with Euphoria physics. Only downside is that it at times more or less forces you to use Dead Eye to survive. But it really is the perfect open-world game and everything after has been poor copies.

It is good but not that damn good. It is pretty bare bones and the western setting does get old after awhile. The gunplay is definitely great. Not enough to deify the game like people do.

Yes all 3 do. You have to call for an extraction and that CIA guy picks you up. Really, really necessary for getting all achievements in them or it'll take forever to liberate everywhere.

It is though. Don't get me wrong GTA defined the genre and completely changed videogames. It's hands down one of the most influential series but RDR is pretty much perfected. I'll tell you one thing that makes RDR better than GTA V that's the animals. The animals and unpredictability is hands down what makes it better than GTA V IMO. I learned that I could quick save by switching horses so I had been doing that every time I started collecting things for a stranger event since the last time I did it I ended up getting sneaked up on and killed by a fucking Cougar.

Fast forward to me in Tall Trees scavenging shit. Quick save by switching horses.

The sheer excitement and panic that flowed through me in that moment I hadn't experience in quite some time playing videogames. I've never had a single fucking moment like that playing GTA V or any GTA game for that fact. I think they realized this which is why they tried to put animals in GTA V but it was so poorly implemented that nobody really cared. Who gives a shit if theirs mountain lions or sharks in the game if I have to go all the way out into the middle of west bubble fuck to find them? The only issue I had with RDR was the fact that I wasn't able to swim in the water which just seems like absolute bullshit and also a missed chance at introducing fishing into the game which would've complemented the hunting aspect. If they don't include that in RDR2 I'll definitely be disappointed.

I like how Morrowind did it. Technically you didn't have "fast travel" in the sense you can just select it from the menu, but you can go to the Silt Strider and instantly be in another town, or go to a guild made. It felt natural because it was naturally part of the environment. I like when games have a logical reason for why you can go to another destination; GTA also did this really well with the cabs.

Game is way too fucking overrated. GTA gives so much more fun.

RDR has a great setting and all but the shit just gets way too fucking dull to play after awhile. I'm convinced people like it because of some meme of it being "so damn good" and yes it is true that it is definitely the best wild west type game we have ever gotten by a mile. That still doesn't make it a top ten greatest game ever.

RDR2 can do a lot to convince me though if they actually give us a lot more things to do this time.
