A pretty good FE game. It's on the easier side compared to other FE games, but if you aren't used to playing FE then there are a few moments where it will kick your shit in.

Shitty Disgaea with a more serious story.

More like an unsuccessful attempt at bringing back the more complex mechanics that were removed when IS first tried to appeal to casuals. Not many realize it because they started with either the GBA or 3DS games but the GBA games were the beginning of the causaliazation of the series. FE6 removed many of the mechanics of FE5 like capturing and skills as well as simplifying all the win conditions to seize. The only new thing it brought to the table were support conversations which are very nice, but it doesn't affect the gameplay. It also doesn't help that the story and characters borrow heavily from FE1. PoR was an attempt at bringing back some of those mechanics as well as adding in new ones, but it was unfortunately not that challenging since you can just rip and tear with Ike and other broken characters. RD makes up for it though since that game is though as nails.

Sacred Stones (FE8 for GBA)
Path of Radiance (FE9 for Gamecube)
Shadow Dragon (remake of FE1 for DS, but many fans have nitpicks about it)

Alternatively, Awakening will also do but if you're looking to emulate, the ones listed above are all a relatively safe space for beginners to get a feel for the franchise.
