Just finished 1 last night. Enjoyed it, man the difficulty spikes in random places.

I grabbed a few relics but have moved onto crash 2 and I'm having more fun. I don't think I have the patience to do the no death runs, almost managed a few of them but I know in the back of my mind there's no chance of me ever being able to do slippery climb in one go

Taking your time nabs you a gold relic and I need to be 10 whole seconds faster to get it

The verticality of jumping up on the boxes can shave seconds
Jumping over the side of shield guy and getting boosted across
Hitting the boxes above the tnt but managed to squeeze over it and break all those boxes in one go instead of repeatedly jumping an spinning

Beaten Crash 1 as far as I've completed all the levels and got like 6 clear gems. I'm not coming back for the colour gems and relics until I've played through the other two games.

Went from 1 to 3 for 100%, now I'm going from 3 to 1 for relics. Crash 2 is kicking my ass right now. These times are ludicrous. I had to bust out all kinds of maneuvers just to barely get a gold in Hangin' Out. There's no way anyway who casually plays the game will be able to get shit like this. I honestly think they went a bit overboard.

Delusional beyond belief. In the original as long as a pixel of Crash's feet were on a platform you would remain standing. In this one Crash has more weight to him, if about half of his body is not on the platform you get dragged into the pitfall. This means the size of the pitfalls are bigger despite them using the original geometry because you still have to cover more distance before and after the pitfall to avoid Crash being dragged into the kill zone. The turtles on the bridge levels do not bounce you as far as they did in the original game, also partially due to their shit hitboxes and Crash having weight to him, landing on them is infinitely more difficult them the original.

The hitboxes on the enemies being so shit is a big problem when you specifically have to land on them to progress. Like in the final stages of Crash 2 when you have to bounce off the floating electric octopus creatures. It's ridiculous.

It's not THAT hard, but there are noticeable differences to the physics and hitboxes that they fucked up which makes them harder than the original games for all the wrong reasons.

For whatever reason now you can slip off of ledges with jumps you would have made in the original games, which happens a fucking lot.

I've also noticed in Toxic Waste that you can get damaged by the enemies if you spin them at the wrong angle that wouldn't have hurt you in the original games, and that's not even getting into the turtle physics in The High Road.

Brio was also a massive pain in the arse because his purple potions are just pelted at you with no sort of arc or noticeable impact, so the final part of it is a bit of a pain to dodge, and his Hulk version has the tiniest hitboxes known to man to the point where you have to let him get inches away from you to guarantee a hit.

Moving onto 2 is the fact that Nitros jump really high at completely random intervals which can severely fuck you up through no fault of your own and just kill/damage you. In the original they jumped a little bit but not really enough to impede your progress or pose any kind of threat provided you make the jump over them. Here it can just randomly jump up in the air and kill you which is a nightmare in time trials and areas with really tight platform placement. Every time I tried to jump over them I was terrified it would just randomly jump up and kill me and it was a frequent occurrence.

I also noticed that the flamethrower obj_motherfuckers in the sewer levels have fucked hitboxes as well to the point where spinning them does shit all unless you hit the at an incredibly specific angle right past them.


I haven't started 3 yet (going to tonight) but I hear there are tons of problems with that too

As someone who noted all those problems with Crash 1 and 2 I didn't notice any issues with Crash 3. Crash having weight to him and dragging you into the holes is obviously still an issue but none of the enemies or stage hazards seemed to have any weird hitboxes or anything. Crash 3 was always Crash for babies, it's just as easy it as the original.

I totally finished Crash 1, working my way through Crash 2 now. The physics are definitely different and it seems like enemies have larger hitboxes while yours is smaller, and that really sucks. It's really toeing the line between being fun and not fun, with Crash 1 closer to the latter. 2 and 3 have less One-Crash-Bandicoot-Jump-Width pits though, so that's already one thing that's better.

I've also noticed that the Polar levels are incredibly jerky to the point where I moved back to the d-pad for them, with frame skips for every bound. It isn't smooth at all and I've missed boxes just through simple presses and re-alignments that really wouldn't have affected anything in the original game.

There's also a MASSIVE fuck up in Piston It Away which crashpro3 found out as well. In the Bonus level there's box outlines you need to fill in later on in the bonus level and then head back to the start to smash the newly filled in boxes. Problem is there's a wall of Nitros that is first scaled by a piston but the trip back doesn't have one. In the original game you just simple jumped around them. It was a bit tricky but very doable and clearly intended. Here you can't jump in three dimensions so if you don't have a mask then you're absolutely fucked and can't smash all of the boxes in it. I'm amazed this made it past testing and is an absolutely heinous error to make. I can't blame this on a rush job at all, it's just simply not programming it for free movement which is absolutely moronic. In between this and the spelling errors done with the trophies (Vengence, really?) this was a real rush job.

It is possible without the mask but very tricky. If you slide jump towards the screen and around the nitros it can still work, it's just really glitchy. I know in this remake there's basically an invisible wall as if the designers forgot the player is supposed to travel in three dimensions but it still kinda works if you're very lucky.

What pisses me off about some of these time trials is they're designed around the player being autistic enough study the level configuration and know how many seconds they need to wait before the grabbing the clock to ensure the level configuration is at it's most convenient. Not only is is autistic to have to study the level timing and determine how many seconds to wait before grabbing the clock, waiting X number of seconds every time I want to retry the time trial is fucking stupid.

I think when you grab the clock the hazards for the entire level should reset, this way, everyone who participates in the time trials will be on the same ground. That way, players will have a fair chance at competing and will all be purely relying on skill rather than the autistic study of the level timing.

Its do-able without a mask if you do some prior thinking. At the set of three boxes after the nitro only break the one that's next to the bouncy box. Then on your return trip bounce on the bouncy box and hold x for max jump height and you can make it over. Remember not to break the box under the bouncy box since that tiny bit of extra height is how you make it over safely.

I disagree. Crash 3 is for fucking babies, it has zero challenge, all of the time trials are ridiculously generous. You don't have to wait for a perfect configuration, you can just go and as long as you're not shit you'll get at leat a gold. The set times for the gold relics at least were not set for you to follow a perfect configuration. They were set for a casual run.

Crash 2 the developers were trying to limit the gold relics to autists.

Spin the crabs. If I remember correctly the first crab can shatter a time crate and an Aku. A later crab can shatter multiple brown crates and a time crate.

Get 3 Akus, crates shatter on touch. Can't be sure but I swear you run faster too.

Take the right path, activate the [ ! ] box to make a bridge. Run across it instead of jumping. They'll shatter half a second after you touch them. Make sure you don't go too fast and fall in before they are done appearing. Finished in 22 doing so.

So far, what are your thoughts about the jump mechanic in the games? Also, if you've played the 2nd and 3rd game, what are your thoughts with the ice physics (or the tar/oil/whatever in the egyptian stage)?

I had difficulty with coping with the jump physics on my first run with each games. I got used on how you handle Crash's jump in the originals. Fortunately, after 2 or 3 stages, I managed to adapt to it. It ain't so bad but damn does it result into me falling near the edges frequently.
As for the ice physics, it's also not bad but my brain is hard wired with the original Crash 2 ice physics.

After the first vertical part there should be a checkpoint and a floating ! box barely on screen. Either bounce off the checkpoint box and hit it, or there is a lizard after that to bounce off of. Then a group of boxes appear on the other side of the wall, you can walk around and the first cortex head is there.

The second one, shortly after the first one you'll come across more sliding blocks that knock you off, in between two of them are two floating boxes like stairs, bounce off both of those and onto the top of the sliding blocks, that's where the second one is.

The third one is shortly after the second again, there will be two of those 3-platform things that rotate in a circle, and there will be another wall with a hole in it that you can use to walk behind the wall. I think theres a life or something floating there. The third one is back there in a box.

Or just look up a walkthrough, that'll be way simpler

You're right. Wrath is interesting to me because it's almost exactly like Warped just with more stuff and yet its much worse.
I really enjoyed the level design though, although some of them were stupidly long. They dragged on forever.

This might just be me, but I find jumping on the ropes far harder than going through Road to Nowhere normally. The High Road, on the other hand, is absolutely awful either way, since the turtles are fucked.
