I can kind of understand it since Kirby Switch was something Nintendo could use to make their new console look even a little more appealing to fans who haven't gotten it yet. The 3DS game isn't really needed to sell systems by this point, so they can afford to keep that one a tighter secret and let us board a hype train much closer to its release. And I guarantee we're not getting much more info on the 2018 game until 2018 actually begins, it really was just to get a message out that a mainline Kirby is gonna be on Switch in the future.

Been replaying Kirby games the past several weeks, and I'm rediscovering this gem all over again. I'm shocked at how much Dream Land 2 puts the newer games to shame.

Only game I've had more fun with so far is Super Star, but damn they really don't make Kirby games like they used to.

Taranza kidnapped Dedede, taking him to the top of a giant beanstalk. He did this to please his queen, who he loved. Said queen fused with the beanstalk and attempted to squeeze Kirby's planet apart.

Susie was the second-in-command of an organization that harvests planets. She joined the company to murder her father, who accidentally had her sent to another dimension years ago before getting his memory erased.

Magolor sounds cool. Kidnapping Dedede could be interesting but the other half is kind of dopey. None of Susie sounds very good.
I didn't like the direction the series went after GBA, but since I got a Switch as a gift and a nephew who likes the newer games I'll give the next one a shot.

There were slight signs of it in the early games, like Kirby splitting the planet in half in the Megaton Punch minigame from Super Star and having a long track-record of slaying god-like beings, but they only started to really play up Kirby's power from Return to Dreamland onward.

Return to Dreamland had Super Abilities which let Kirby destroy the landscape with screen-filling abilities like summoning flaming dragons or pulling out colossal swords. At one point Kirby even slices a volcano in half for a puzzle, and at the end of the game he beats a villain that supposedly has "infinite power" himself.

In Triple Deluxe, Kirby can eat Miracle Fruit, which maximize his inhale ability to ridiculous levels. Among the things he ends up eating is Jormungandr-style dinosaur whose body stretches all the way into the distance. The final boss is so massive that its body stretches across the planet, yet Kirby beats it no matter how many times the boss powers up (up to and including the boss eating four Miracle Fruit itself).

Finally, Planet Robobot just said fuck it and outright states Kirby has infinite power, with the titular Robobot becoming an unstoppable engine of destruction due to channeling Kirby's power (without Kirby it is just a weak mass production mech). The end is the most absurd yet, as Kirby fights an omnipotent magic computer the size of a planet. Kirby's Robobot assimilates Meta Knight's Halberd, resulting in a huge Kirby battle ship fueled by Kirby's own strength. At the climax, Kirby's Robobot pulls out a colossal TTGL drill and just drills right through the middle of the computer planet and annihilates it completely. In the pause screen it even says the computer cannot calculate the full extent of Kirby's power and concludes it is doomed just before Kirby's drill shreds it up.

That was a stylized minigame, common enemies could do that too. The only thing close to a "god-like being" in the originals was 0, and Kirby could only beat him with the help of everyone that he helped else on his world.

It is also of note that in the early games, Kirby always needed a special legendary item to beat the big villain, like the Star Rod or Rainbow Sword. But as the series went on, those weapons started to become optional (you can beat Dark Mind and Dark Nebula without Galaxia or the Tri-Star Rod, but it just takes longer). Then as of RtD, Kirby is now beating these cosmic threats with next to no outside help. All he needs are his own abilities at this point.

Nightmare, Dark Matter and Marx indeed weren't that powerful in the grand scheme of things, but Drawcia single-handedly turned the whole world into a painting, which seems pretty divine. Yin-Yarn later did the same thing by turning the world into yarn instead.

Instead of giving up your ability to make a helper, you throw hearts at enemies to convert them into friends. You can't get a new helper at any time by giving up your ability, you have to find the right kind of enemy to convert. Certain friends will be necessary for certain in-game events. If your helper is an elemental, and your current ability is a weapon, your helper can imbue your weapon with their element. So you could have a fire whip, for example. Sometimes a combination will result in a super move instead, like ice + rock.
We don't know if you can ride on your friends' backs like you could in RtDL, it wasn't in the trailer. Clean ability is back, but no new abilities were shown. Out of the helpers shown one is new, Driblee the Water helper. Wispy woods has a purple aura around him, so perhaps he'll get a new power-up, or maybe someone like Dark Nebula is part of this game.
