There really aren't many games with Kamidori's gameplay, and those who really care about the story can use a texthook to get a vague translation.
The patch has currently over 1k downloads - as long I got some people happy, and managed to learn some new kanji in the process, I'll believe it wasn't a waste.

I'm at chapter 3 but, well pure combatwise it feels much better than Kamidori imo. Has better AI and maps+Event maps(New nature effects like magic rock storm that patrols and area and you're fucked if you get hit by it, the same for the enemy units which actually died to it) . Sometimes these fuckers even like running away when low on HP like those black ant dudes on the way to that mountain laboratory to get Ranrin Yuiki.

That said I actually agree with you on this one. It has way better character interactions and voice acting and seems more story focused though its nothing special you will miss out a LOT if you decide to play it like Kamidori.

The combat is definitely an improvement. While hard mode is just the old "throw more HP/damage at it", the enemies actually make good use of their abilities and terrain, and prioritize weaker units when possible.
The story is also better, but that's not saying much, given how Kamidori's writing wasn't particularly exceptional.
