MGS and Halo. Strangely if you look at the Halo and MGS series their games follow an incredibly similar quality and structure path
>1 is a game that introduced the world and was met with commercial and critical success, introduced mechanics with weird design decisions that would get removed from later entries
>2 tricked you into playing a game from the perspective of a character who was not advertised. Has a story that people hated at the time but have grown to love. Both set up a bigger problem for the universe in game at the end
>3 slowed everything down, dumbed down the story, backpeddled on everything that made 2 unique and interesting. Despite all this casuals praise it as the best of the original trilogy
>4 is a massive clusterfuck of trying to tie up loose ends and retconning shit every which way
>5 has a marketing campaign that completely misleads the players in the opposite of a satisfying way. Both launched with no content, getting major expected features months after release. Both have a threadbare story that amounts to fuck all.

I liked it better that way, felt more deliberate. The fact that they were invisible made me actually feel like I was hunting them, in MP1 I'd sometimes find them accidentally, the same way I'd find missile expansions.

But it stopped your progression dead in your tracks since it comes at the end of the game, it's like if you were forced to search for missile expansions and only at the end of the game, when the point of that kind of exploration is that it's optional and gives you freedom. Really reeks of padding.
