Yes, but emphasis on FANS. That series (and vocaloids as a whole for the matter) is as niche as it gets, at least on the west.

And if we're talking "mainstream", LWA is a mostly kid-friendly anime not too different from something like Harry Potter. It's not niche at all unless you slap an "anime" label to it and start saying that every animated series from Japan is necessarily niche, which is far from true.
