Just because there are some mini 3 second cutscenes in battle doesn't mean the battles are bad. I like what they add to the metroid fights.
Anyway, I like what I see so far. The maps look good, gameplay looks fun, and there will most likely be some good postgame content like in zero mission

Shut the hell up, Sakamoto pretty already confirmed in an IGN interview that he's going back on that project. I'm pretty sure your first Metroid was Prime since you don't even know Super Metroid is Metroid 3 and Metroid Fusion is Metroid 4.

Zero Mission is essentially "Metroid 5", it's as similar to Metroid as Super Metroid is to Metroid. Then there's Other M, which broke the linear story trend for a prequel.

Very excited.
The only thing that worried me a bit was that all of the rooms in the trailer looked kinda empty and linear, but the footage they showed during the Treehouse was already reassuring.

I'm not too convinced about the flashy takedowns. I wouldn't go as far as calling them "QTEs", but Metroid has always been about positioning and maneuvering, and this counterattack mechanic feels a bit antithetical to that.
Not that I think you'll be able to just sit your ass and kill a boss without ever moving, but it still feels like a weird inclusion.

I'm cautiously optimistic.

Although I've never played Mirror the of Fates and likely never will (more because I'm not a castlevania person), and I can't see the two games being very similar anyways, the people that said MoF was really bad makes me a little worried.

But I've been enjoying what I've seen so far. I like that we have proper 360 degree shooting now, and the counter could had some depth to the combat. The Aeon abilities are cool too and I'm glad that they're entirely optional, they'll make 100% completion not a huge fucking chore at the very least.

Honestly, what worries me most is balance. I mean, yeah, Samus has always been fairly overpowered, and the 2D games never really had incredibly challenging bosses (aside from Nightmare and Phantoon fuck you both), but I can easily see the Aeon abilities, mixed with the counter and 360 movement, breaking this game in half. And that's not even mentioning that they brought back Super Metroid's wall jump. If they add in Speedboost and Shinespark, (which they almost definitely will) this game might end up being more breakable than Super. At the very least I can see this game being a fun speed running game.

Not really. The original game was extremely linear, and given the direction taken with Fusion and Zero Mission, Samus Returns will probably be just as linear, if not more linear. Not being able to sequence-break these games just sucks all the replay value out of them.

Metroid games have always been pretty linear. Any nonlinearity in them was not by design. The only game in the series I would say might be intentionally nonlinear is Metroid 1, where you can do Ridley before Kraid without any difficulty.

By this logic Super Metroid had to be linear because Metroid 2 was.

I'm sure it will still be fairly linear because that's how the original game was designed, but I highly fucking doubt it would be more linear than Fusion, or even Zero Mission.

>Metroid games have always been pretty linear. Any nonlinearity in them was not by design.
Super and ZM had nonlinearity by design. Super Metroid taught you sequence breaking techniques like the wall jump and shinespark through mini cutscenes with the etecoons and dachora. Zero Misison added several routes such as pic related which exist purely to let you beat the game out of order.

You're ignorant and uninformed, and you or people like you speak this bullshit in every thread.
>>
>>382473197
>Metroid games have always been pretty linear.

Have you actually played any Metroid games? II and Fusion were the only linear games in the series. I haven't played Other M and I have no intention of doing so, so I can't comment on that. If I'm not mistaken, Prime had some sequence-breaks too.

If we're going to count ZM despite being a loose remake, it was fairly linear, although there were ways to sequence-break parts of the game. The methods were just exceptionally obtuse compared to Super.

>>
>>382473980

Prime's sequence breaks were unintentional and were patched out in later versions of the game.
The original US Gamecube release of Prime is by far the best version for that reason. Despite technically being glitches, they were still found by manipulating the environment and your momentum rather than arcane tricks and felt pretty organic because of that.

Super had nonlinearity by mistake.

Zero Mission was absolutely intentional.

Not him, but both Super and ZM still ultimately required you to do a certain direction to get items. Sure, you COULD go about it a different way, but more often than not it wasn't the INTENDED way.
ZM's non-linearity was mostly just fan service, and even then it's still fairly linear.

But that is a valid observation. Nintendo has taken a specific trend with recent iterations of the series. Why should anyone assume this game will suddenly break the linearity trend? I'm not getting my hopes up unless Nintendo comes out with some sort of statement to the effect of, "Samus Returns will be an open-world game."

>>
>>382475483
It's not Other M bullshit.
In Other M you could literally start mashing the D+Pad before an attack even started and once one did you'd automatically dodge with a free full-charge.
If you do that shit here you'll just do an ineffective attack, after which the enemy would do it's own attack and hit you.
You don't even get a free charge when you counter, but you do have the briefest period of time where your shot will deal extra damage.
I consider it a major improvement.

It has to be. There's a spacer above and below the Varia Suit and the blank icon, indicating it's in a group, same with the Bomb and it's own blank icon.
So it's pretty logical to assume those spots are for the Power Bombs and Gravity Suit.
The empty spot with the beams has to be the Plasma Beam, since it's a series staple and was introduced in the original Metroid 2, and the same pretty much goes with the last slot in the Misc section. It has to be the Screw Attack because it's a series staple and was in the original Metroid 2.

It's because the old team that worked on Metroid 1-Zero Mission were disbanded back in 2005.

It's not like they're just throwing this shit at MercurySteam and letting them do whatever, outside of the Melee counter they just seem to be doing coding/programming. A lot of the actual directing/producing/composing is coming from NCL staff members who've worked on Metroid before.

Seriously. Yesterday in general had some comfy Metroid threads. Can we not have shitposting next time?

>Normal /v/: Piracy isn't theft, it doesn't hurt devs.
>Metroid /v/: I-IT WOULD SELL BETTER WITHOUT PIRATES! YOU ARE WORSE THAN HITLER!

Ok lets see who has the last laugh :^)
>>

Have you been living under a rock? There are more and more people posting every day about piracy being bad. It's not just Metroid threads.
>>
>>382472223
If you're precise you can jump across it

Since it won't sell over a million I'm at no risk at looking like an idiot, while you don't LOOK like an idiot; you simply are.

Team Ninja only did the gameplay of Other M, and maybe character design. All the worst parts were all Sakamoto.

When has /v/ ever been right?
>>
>>382498465
It would sell a million in a world without piracy, but we have to assume at least 600k would be stolen, so that reduces true sales to at least 400k. If not lower depending on how many people steal the game via piracy.

You're right, at least 800k lost sales. Copies sold, 200k.
>>
>>382500693
Once again, /v/ is never right.
>>
>>382500761
Then it will have minimal lost sales and will be a massive success.

Now you just helped to create a paradox. Good job faget.

>OOT has more hand holding hate to tell ya
Please, go on then, tell us how it has more handholding
>>
>>382500865
Of course it will sell well like almost all 2D Metroid game, maybe you faggots should learn how to start being right once in a while.
>>
>>382501217
But you should said /v/ is always wrong, by your logic, you're wrong.

I'm excited. I'd love to emulate the Prime Trilogy but I don't have a fucking sensor bar for my PC

>it will sell well like almost all 2D Metroid game
/v/ is wrong again, 2D Metroid games sell poorly. The last one to sell well was 30 years ago
