I'd recommend Far Cry 2 for starters. At first you'll hate it for being so repetitive and having so many enemies everywhere you need to kill with a broken AK, but it helps you train and refine again and again your mass slaughtering skills until you steamroll everything.

Same thing with Gothic games. You start as a piece of shit that everyone is bullying and you can't do shit until halfway through the game, then you start to tackle some risky shit, kill a couple big enemies and important people, and soon you become a walking genocidal god.

Prototype pulled it off just fine. You just need to up the power levels for your enemies throughout the game.

That's called bullet sponges. When you throw cars at cops and later throw cars at guys in power armor, you're still throwing cars.

In the case of Far Cry 2, you start being scared of shit, sticking to cover, and avoiding combat, to actually seeking it, blowing the whole place up and clearing the whole place in seconds with starting weapons. Nothing changed, but your skill and your approach. That makes you feel deadly as fuck, not just because your enemies look slightly more threatening even though you got more powerful weapons in the meantime which negates the challenge.
