I'd say Terran Conflict honestly. Most of the stuff AP adds is either minor and not relevant until you're quite a bit into the game (stock market), or annoying and pointless (the war). Meanwhile TC's main terran plot is and okay-ish introduction to the game at least.

But really TC or AP are both fine.

It's mediocre at best. It generally serves it's purpose but it's not particularly deep at all. That said serves it's purpose and it's not bad from a 'setup' sense; taking the right shit can be very important.
Also, it can range from very common to very rare depending on how you play.

Shit though it is, combat in X is unironically better than fucking E:D. I don't think I've ever played a space game with worse combat than that fucking game.

Really though if someone wants good space shootan game they should just get Freespace 2 and the source port + grafix upgrades.
