FFXIV combat is your typical Asian shit, with blaring lights exploding on the screen whenever you press a button. The rotations are needlessly complicated and there's way too much button bloat (admitted by the playerbase).

Ever wonder why PvP has always been hot garbage in the game? Because anyone can produce combat when all you have to do is stand behind a huge boss and press a combo of buttons. When it actually comes to designing a deep combat system that works in both PvP and PvE, WoW absolutely trounces the shit out of FFXIV.

Getting a unique piece of gear with effects that power up skills or add damage procs or add something special to your character is what is used to drive the farming treadmill.

I agree with OP, FFXIV is not just a bad MMO, it's a terrible game. I went through all of vanilla, then the post-50 quests to unlock HW, all through HW and then stopped about 5 hours into SB.

People who enjoy FFXIV do so for the barbie dress-up factor. That style of 'play' naturally lends itself to logging out of the game and talking about it publicly. WoW has that playerbase as well, but it's no where near as prolific.

I know they wanted to pace things out but theres not much to do besides roulettes to get geared up for Omega. On top of that I had no investment in the MSQ this time. I absolutely hate Ala Mhigo and its useless people. Doma arc was good but short lived. I feel like they're holding onto way too much content for 4.1 and 4.2 and left the launch bare.

I'm not expert on lore, but as I understand it, in FFXIV once someone dies their body turns back into base matter in life stream and their soul poofs of some some afterlife. People strong enough, like WoL, can keep their soul connected to their body even when it's part of life stream and that makes life stream to pop them out.

There's a lot of speculation in regards to these mechanics in XIV, normal reviving is just pulling someone's soul back to their body (their aether, basically) whereas something like the Echo which you see when you wipe to a boss is something different (which is part of the whole theory that the WoL is a primal)

I ran into my first level boosted Paladin yesterday in sohm al and it was fucking awful. They played on a controller and had no keyboard so they're totally mute, they keep turning shield oath on and off which screwed up the aggro table, and they never use defensive cooldowns so healer is 100% focused on healing without pause.

Took us almost 1 hour to clear the dungeon because the guy didn't even know what his enmity combo was or what provoke did. The worst part is that this is only a MSQ dungeon, I fear for what he does when he gets to harder content.

"Story" in XIV is just obligatory hours upon hours of text bubbles and movies intended for single player consumption. THAT IS NOT A GOOD MMO STORY. An MMO story should be told in party content, in large-scale PVP battles, in actual player involvement... Not in hours upon hours of lazy cutscenes which love to take their sweet time to get to a point before sending you across the world to get 5 more speech bubbles from an NPC.

Even WoW approach where shit just happens besides you and players are basically super mercs is better than this shit that actively contradicts the massively multiplayer nature of the game.

I bet most of it was simply pointing out flaws and mistakes without being assholes. Seeing how he acted in his livestream of XIV a week ago, it's most likely this.

He is a biased individual who can't deal with real criticism. He only does F2P korean MMOs with a few exceptions. So if he shits on those small games he gets some angry fans too, but he calls them fanboys and can move on and so do those fans. He couldn't with XIV and the backlash made his unprepared ass salty.

Now he calls the entire XIV community fanboys who are manipulated by SE which he, of course, can see through those tricks. Like making the player feel special despite other players around playing the same hero.

As someone who actually, genuinely enjoys this game I have to admit it can look pretty fucking ugly in some places. For example, Raubahn's new cape thing. What the fuck were they thinking? They literally did the texture in ms paint.

Only retards believed that XIV had 5M subs at some point while it was only "5M accounts".

~400K concurrent subs isn't really a bad score per se, XI was roughly at that number during its golden age (400~500K) and it's still the most profitable FF to date.

Besides WoW (and that's mainly thanks to China), no game can maintain a concurrent sub number over a million, it's just not possible anymore.

Unless you're on a dead network, you can almost always get a tank or heal in less than two minutes. You also have FCs, many of which carry the shit out of newbies. Once you get out of babbyland, statics aren't hard to form either.

Anyway, it was just an example of lazy workmanship. Some others include the hands on nearly all humanoid models. They're pretty blocky and lack fingernails. Toes are still literally squares and they still don't have bare feet enabled.

I mean, I get it, the game is using models that were made nearly a decade ago (and with the PS3 in mind) but as far as the new content is concerned there's absolutely zero fucking reason for them to use such low resolution textures.

Final Fantasy is over half shit games, my man, but XIV is still the best MMO I've played. That's more of a dig at MMOS at large than a compliment, because it could easily be so much better.
