Reaper Leviathans made me realize that I have chronic fear to deep sea. And it's not even deep.
>>
>>382433969
The only way to avoid reapers is to not go into the biomes where they spawn. If you need to go into those biomes to get stuff, you're shit out of luck.
>>
>>382434187
It would probably just kill you faster.
Reapers are surprisingly fast.

Don't you realize how problematic that would be? Remember the killing spree of Obraxis Prime! The true enemy in a hazardous environmet is not only but ourselves......

It's not scary anymore now that the deepest depths are still well lit. Game for babies.

Fuck off you utter faggot. The game needs guns, a spear/net/some sort of rope gun to tether beasts down instead of just floating there. It would make the game a lot more fun. The dev leaving out something because he is against guns in real life is ridiculous, fucking neck yourself.

Go fuck yourself and your /pol/ bogeyman. I'm OP and I can understand no lethal weapons in a survival game, giving a scare factor, but the real reason devs don't put weapons in here is because of political opinions and no one can deny it. I have no problem with this game having no weapons, but if you are going to sperg muh /pol/ when you know exactly the reason, then fuck off.
And before you spew shit anything, I'm not American, I'm not even in the same fucking continent.

It's almost done, I think beween the end of summer and start of winter it would be done for sure. The only thing left in this game is building the endings, both the rocket escape and the alternative ending. Also polishing.

they have a trello online with a clear roadmap of points they still have to tackle. they are not aimlessly developing. there is just a few more features and final models to be implemented , like a way to create a serum from the enzymes you get, and a way to heal yourself, and a way to construct the parts for the space rocket to escape. the models are already done, by that company Fox3D they outsourced most of their 3d models to, they mainly have to finish coding these parts , and finish their sound efects.

I would pay for a fish survival mode. Can you imagine?
>in creature mode you can play as the many creatures of Subnautica, starting at the bottom of the food chain, and unlocking new creatures as you survive. The more time you live, the more creatures you unlock
>The gamemode is one-life-only, like hardcore mode, and if you die, the time retes, meaning that you have to live a certain time for unlock that creature.
>You have health and hunger bar, and you can only heal and feed from other creatures or plants, depending of the creature as you are playing, you might need some especific kind of food.
>You can reproduce/have nest with creatures of the same species.
Something like Spore, but in the Subnautica way.

So I played a few hours not too long ago when the silent running update was released and the stealth seemed pretty broken. I played again yesterday with the latest updates and my Cyclops makes almost no sense now.

A. why is the silent running toggle on the right and has a cool down now? Even when I engage it, I still hear "warning, cavitating."

B. what is the point of emergency speed if you can't use it long enough to get out of the patrol radius of a creature without your engine exploding?

C. why are my cyclops cell chargers so fucking slow now?

D. why do the three power cells on the starboard side of the engine room keep depleting themselves? are those 3 used to power electronics onboard while the port batteries are used to power drive? even with the engines and lights off, the starboard battery bank depletes continually.

>>
>>382439262
they fixed that onboard cell charger exploit, you no longer can abuse the cyclops to recharge your cells, for that we get a thermal charger upgrade where you can abuse thermal vents and other heat sources to charge your cyclops. in the active lava zone you can operate indefinitely with it. silent running is still getting tweaked, its not there yet. emergency speed and thermal management is being rebalanced.
you need to shut down your cyclops engine when parking, and turn off all lights to prevent power loss. also, check for these damn lava larvas , they drain your batteries

That's idiotic. A nuclear submarine can stay in operation for years at a time, they should at least give you the option to make nuclear batteries using U238 and ion crystals so that power is never an issue in the cyclops.

As far as the silent running toggle, do I have to throttle down to slow speed before engaging it now or does it automatically slow you down?

Let's be honest here
All of our cyclopes are green and purple
>>
>>382440116
And sharks aren't rage-filled monsters either. Sharks are chill unless they're hungry and you look like food or you piss them off
>>
>>382440343
I dunno, can you change the main color of the Cyclops?
>>
>>382440116

Stalkers are literally the perfect stating monster for this sort of game.

They do enough damage that if your a drop baby they will murder you.
You have to observe them to learn how to use them to your advantage, e.g. drop them scrap and they will give you teeth to craft with.

They LOOK scary enough, when starting out seeing a shark rushing you is terrorfying in of itself.

But then after you've seen Reapers, Crab Squids, AmpEels.
You come home and you see three of these things charging you, and you just casually swim around them, you as the player have grown.

Plus you can tame them, which I've never bothered with but it's neat it's there as well.
>>
>>382440307

>>
>>382440463

Yes, for all vehicles you can change the base color, stripe 1, stripe 2, and name color.
>>
>>382440532
There's plenty of shit to DO, because it does take a lot of exploration and crafting to get through the storyline. I think there's not really any alternate motivator though. Unlocking TECHNOLOGY is fun in itself but there's only so much of it, and base building is also fun but it's easy to build everything you could need and then you're done.

Probably just shouldn't treat it like an infinite experience. The story is gonna take a new player quite a long time to get through.
>>
>>382440553
It tends to be way more complicated to program unlike "terrestial" games, especially for NPC pathfinding and other AI issues.

>>
>hurr no guns??

A speargun should really be added so you don't have to literally catch fish out of the water, but they shouldn't add firearms. Firearms would ruin the atmosphere of the game; you're supposed to be a little human dealing with an alien world that includes mega-predators. Being able to shoot them would remove any sense of fear they provide.
The fact that the devs won't add guns because they're noguns is stupid though

Before you can get the Ion Cells the only place that could really happen is the Lava Zones, and you can circumvent that by building a small resupply base in the Lost River with a recharger. Not to mention there's now a recharger module that charges your cells to 30% if they're below that when in an area above a certain temperate, like the PRAWN module that does the same. Exploring all the higher biomes it's not really a problem anyway, and once you get Ion Cells you're coasting for days. If all else fails, leave some spares in your lockers onboard.

When you go to the signal the gun base gives you, don't scan yourself when it says you should self scan. That gives ugly cosmetic stuff on your hands.

>>382451919
I use a Steam controller.

You can move around on a horizontal axis with the joystick, up and down with bumpers/grips (however you want), and you move forward in the direction you're looking. I expected some of the motion sickness to kick in, but much like Elite Dangerous in VR, it feels fine, almost like you're "piloting" a human bot.

The scale is spot on; everything looks huge and intimidating around you.

Never gone through that portal myself but once you've activated one with an Ion Crystal they stay activated forever and you can go back and forth through the ones now active. All portals lead to a specific destination and back.
>>
why is people still making multiple tanks? in the current version they don't stack anymore
>>

I made four floating cabinets to storage shit while I'm out until I have the stuff to build a decent base.
You can also save those cabinets inside the escape pod, but beware, you can fuck the shit up inside the boat really bad, they weight a ton.

Can I have a quick rundown on the actual changes made on the Cyclops? From what I've heard, we have:

>Silent Running is not a speed anymore but a temporary function of the submarine

The second facility isn't really that deep.
Just get a seamoth with the depth upgrade and you can stay safe in your seamoth the whole way.
>>
>>382453306
>power cell charger in the Cyclops
Unintended bug and since fixed.

>Bone sharks are extremely agressive
Bonesharks are dicks. Silent Running last for 30 seconds and is enough time get away from them unless you stay in their turf. Then you're better off getting out and swimming instead, or using a PRAWN/Moth because they hate those far less.

a harpoon taking 1 space each in the inventory + the weapon to fire them would be cool tho
and it makes getting the prawn suit later much more satisfying

punching that piece of shit to the death was so satisfying, with a gun you would just hide in a small cave and slowly kill it, you can even use the drill arm to speed up the process, but punchs are more satisfying

according to Klegran, the developper working on the Cyclops, he said on the Steam forums that only the flanking speed does that, after 20 seconds of navigation, so it should be a problem if one switches to a lower speed then, right?

You lose the same amount of power as you put in, so there's no gain or loss. Personally even without Ion Power Cells I've never had much trouble with power usage except for lengthy trips to the ILZ, so I'm not fussed about it. Never even built chargers in the Cyclops to begin with.

Alright, got an air tank, a knife, a scanner, and fins. The game keeps telling me that radiation is coming, do I need to try and get the lead diving suit soon, or is that just flavor text? Where should I be going next? I've explored the shallows somewhat and the kelp area a bit.
>>
>>382463564
Rad suit isn't that hard to make, so you should go ahead and make one. The next area should present itself in a few days.
>>
>>382463564
i hear it actualy spreads. you should get that lead suit asap.
>>
>>382463564
You only need the rad suit if you get within a certain radius of the Aurora, but you should go ahead and build it anyway since it's basically free. You should probably build a repair tool next, as well as a seaglide if you don't already have one, then plan on building a base somewhere interesting and then start on searching for Seamoth fragments.
>>
>>382463930

Do I need to scan shit to make a seaglide? Away from my computer at the moment. As for making a base, I need to scan things to give me blueprints, right? Guessing I can find some basic stuff in the starting are and the kelp area.
>>
>>382464190
You have a few base blueprints at the start when you get a habitat builder. The game is a bastard and makes you hunt down fragments for the standard room though, but you can make do with corridors though. Yes, you do need to scan shit for the seaglide.
>>
>>382464190
Yeah, check around the small wrecks in the shallows, especially in the crates scattered around. Bigger wrecks almost always have a few different fragments in them, but they can be risky to explore very early on. Just watch your O2 and budget enough to get to the surface and you'll be fine.
>>
>>382464376
>>382464390

Ah, ok. I've found a bunch of those white boxes in the wreckage, but haven't been able to interact with them or scan them. Guess I'll go give them another on e over when I get back in. Guessing the rule of thumb is to just try and scan everything?
>>
>>382464541
Yup. Seaglide parts are pretty common in open boxes around the life pod, at least they were for me.
>>
>>382464541
these boxes have mostly one side opened, and an item inside you can scan
>>
>>382463564
>>382463894
The PDA isn't lying when it says the Aurora's drive core is having problems.
It eventually spreads, but only so far.
About 1km out from the Aurora

>>382464541
The boxes with stuff in them are missing a panel on the side. You can see the fragment. Scan everything you haven't already got the blueprint for. If you scan more fragments than you need, you get 2 titanium for each surplus scan.
>>
Should I get this game? I've been thinking about picking it up during the summer sale but don't know if I should or not

The story is the content, you dummy
The whole planet is infected with a mysterious disease which you need to explore the very deepest parts of the ocean to cure before you can find a way to escape
It gives you a reason to really explore rather than just hole up in a base in a safe area and farm fish for 200 hours
>>
>>382466779
it's a niche game, the devs never really had a blockbuster seller game in their scopes anyway.

It's about the experience, very atmospheric. Lot of games these days are lifeless, and underwater games are as niche as space games.

There's a map online but to be completely honest I'd say just go at it blind.
