Is this the best JRPG of all time?

It's one of the best pure JRPG experiences with no fluff. Just a basic JRPG style game that felt like it came from the 80s with a real nice coat of graphical polish. Also the european voice acting was really charming.

And there's the problem, unlike Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest refuses to change and it's still the same old game from the 80s, but with fancier graphics.

One big flaw is the existence of random encounters.
I know they've been removed in the 3DS version but it's not the same as playing a game like this on a TV

When I bought this off eBay years ago, I got a note from the seller asking me to take care of the game because it's a special one.

It's the only message of this type that I've ever received for a video game from buying off eBay for years.

Nah I find the combat to be boring.
I'd rather play a flashier game like SMT though it's more fun than most FF games.

I got to the part where you're trying to recruit the girl, but first go out on a ship to fight some sea creature. I died and pretty much lost interest.

I think it was the lack of drama/story/characters that failed to hold my interest. I didn't hate it though, perhaps I'll try again soon.

Way too easy, the first half lets you steamroll all bosses by raising tension while the second is basically a guessing game on whether your tension will be resetted or not. Still good tho

I got like 10-12 hours into DQ7 before I dropped it. The combat was tolerable but I couldn't get into the story at all.

VII pacing was great most of the time, the island thingy was great.

But some of them were really shit, like the church statue one where monsters attacked the town to steal it, i swear they made you backtrack the same cave like 4 times, almost dropped the game there.
