Pardon me for not wanting to play a game that rewards me for having a pulse. It's like if your hobby was wall climbing but it was universally decided that in order to cater to the largest audience possible, the walls have to be made less and less steep every year to the point of them being nearly flat on the ground.

You need to realize that the typical player isn't interested in clearing the same fight a billion times for a mount and learning every mechanic by heart to minimize the amount of time needed for a run. They just want the checkmark. They're not going to memorize this one special case without some kind of instruction. They might copy the other players on a case-to-case bases at best.

The stack marker should really be in the novice hall.

Dark Souls 1 had a steady difficulty curve up until O&S where you suddenly have to fight two bosses at once and when you beat one the other gets a full hp bar and new attacks. It's a massive difficulty spike that sets the tone for the rest of the game.

I get the reasoning that you're going for. "A word that describes everything is useless for describing anything", right? For example, if there weren't concepts like unicorns or evidence for Russia hacking the US elections to help their spy become president, then what use would the word "exists" serve? The category of non-existent must exist in clear terms in order for the word "exist" to serve any sort of purpose. Both non-casuals and games which are casual-accessible are readily observable, so the concept of something that a casual can't get past (a filter of sorts) does indeed serve a purpose, even if one particular game has many such instances.

That was my reasoning. Yeah, he hard; even at base difficulty. But there's about 4 or 5 different ways to cheese him and if you stand on the platform he has 2 attacks: Slow Sweep and Slow Overhead Swing.

Veldstat would have been a better choice of casual filter. His attacks swing in ridiculously wide arcs meaning that if you roll the wrong way they can still hit you, his damage is also high and he has some nasty tracking to boot.

normal nignogg has about a third of shinny's asspulls and the attacks occur at a much lower frequency. i'm actually not sure what can trip people up in nignogg since it's just a lot of ground aoes

shinryu has a lot of less common and obvious mechanics that catch casuals every time
- multiple knockbacks and slides
- no railings
- "i held the button but failed the QTE!"
- a mutating arena

Honestly the only times I really die in that fight of my own volition is everyone is stacking inside the boss' hitbox, and I can't see if my character is actually in the thin line safe spot or not. But that's pretty rare, usually people just stack somewhere behind or to the side of him and it's fine.
