Other than chess AI, I literally can't think of a single example of AI from RTS, FPS, Racing Games etc that doesn't cheat to some degree.

All CPUs, regardless of difficulty setting, always know what you're doing (they're trying to change this in SC2).

Insane makes 20 gold per trip, vs. the usual 10.

Beating a CPU is a totally different playstyle and "skill" than beating real people. Even beating and Insane CPU means less than beating an average soloer. Beating a CPU is beating a non-adaptive formula

100% Orange Juice, especially Tomomo in every final scenario and Tomomo Hell. She'll even admit to cheating once you beat her. This consists of her having a much higher chance of rolling 5s and 6s, and quite a few of your own rolls being on the low end.

Extreme mode is even more bullshit because the game doesn't even try to pretend it's not rigging the game in the AI's favor.

>The AI can pull out any card it wants.
Not exactly. Each opponent has a list of cards they can have in their deck, each with a certain chance of appearing. What they draw and transform depends on rng and there's a lot of factors that go into that. There's also a thing called ''easy modes'' which is where the opponent just straight up only plays the weakest cards he can play. Though why this happens when he can just transform those cards into BEUDs is anyone's guess.

Then there's F-Zero GX:

Recently discovered this in Tekken 6.
If you are going for a grab or throw, the AI will just go in low cover for 0.2s while beeing inside of a combo, and return to it right after, dodging your attack. I watched some pro games after, that never happened in any one of them.
So basically they read your input and screw you over

A lot of FPS games can read you inputs and will shoot where youre going to be and not where you are/were. This might seem obvious, but on the higher difficulties it can be frustrating as fuck since you can die in only a few shots.

Take HALO on legendary for example. ELITEs can kill you in about 3 or 4 plasma rifle shots and those 4 shots will come out in 1 second or less. So if youre moving, and theyre shooting, and you dodge in the opposite direction, they will already be shooting in that direction and youll get killed with no way to have saved yourself (outside of getting into cover which isnt always possible).

Not necessarily. You can't build a table holding all possible situations on the chess board and the perfect move for that situation, it would take far too long to compute such a table. That's why, unlike simpler games like Connect Four, chess isn't "solved".
Old chess AI's, like the one that beat Kasparov, simulated a few moves in advances and then picked the move that, given an optimal play style by the opponent, would result in the best board for the AI. Dunno if modern AIs use other algorithms now, not that improving them would matter since they can easily beat humans anyway.

AlphaGo rek'd the best human player in Go, which was considered "hard" for AIs.

It's only a matter of time until the size of "turn" as perceived by AI becomes so short that it may as well be continuous time. Then it will start to beat humans in RTS, outmicroing lifeless korean biological robots.

I always thought it was stupid how Maior Kart 64's rubberband AI didn't just pick whoever was currently closest to the player. The game predetermines the finish of each AI for each GP (e.g. Bowser always comes in 1st, DK 2nd, Toad 3rd, etc.)

I first noticed this as a kid when I knocked whoever was in first off the long jump on Wario's Stadium and watched the map as they rocketed back to 2nd place after being leagues away from even 7th place just a minute before.

Near as I can tell, the only cheating in the Battle Frontier is that all the pokemon have 252 EVs in every stat. Beyond that, all the problems come from the fact that there's no such thing as a strategy without a counter, and it's actually very unlikely that you won't be hard-countered at least once over the course of 50 straight battles. Hell, the more you're required to win back to back, the more likely that just one of those battles will be very unlucky for you.

Cheating AI used to mean enemy beats you with knowledge he shouldn't have or because he can things faster than you can.

Now it means enemy rolls over and lets you win even though you played like a retard. Play bad enough and the AI will go into retard mode and stop attacking you. I used to mod Crysis and there that concept was called "mercy time". If your health got low enough enemies would just stop shooting you (or at least they would stop hitting).

Not one boss in this game frustrated me more than this npc asshole. I would literally wait 4 minutes for him to change his trick weapon so he couldn't spam pistol me to death. Its a shame too because I love the hunter of hunters arc of the game so much

I just cheesed the fucker with Poison Knives. Didn't feel bad at all after I realized he instantly parrys you if you try to hit him more than once after an opening
>>
>>382437457
in crysis the number of enemy who can hit you depends on the difficulty mode
it's not a bad idea

even the hardest difficulty AI in CS:GO is easy

Every RTS ever
>>
>>382437457
Crysis needs a system like that because the concept of sending a single soldier to attack a military base is flat out retarded.
>>
>>382437662
That's not a bad idea but mercy time is. It was just a little cooldown during which no enemy would shoot at you.

>health drops below x
>enemies stop shooting giving you time to seek cover

Especially in a game with health-regen that's a terrible concept. Manually removing it from the highest (!) difficulty mode was the first thing I ever "modded" about Crysis.

The AI in fighting games can read your input so technically they're just pretending to be retarded.
>>
>>382437795
No, it really didn't. If you drop that low in health you've already fucked up and you should die. It plays better when you turn that shit off.

Mortal Kombat 2. Unless you abuse a sweeping kick, the 5th opponent onwards flat out counters your moves, it's bullshit. Mileena is the worst about this. The moment you jump to her, she will jump backwards and throw her Sai, if you uppercut, she will uppercut you faster than your animations can, if you jump or walk backwards for too long, she'll fall thru the fall and flying kick you. Trying to fight her before Kintaro is gg.

call of duty 4 and 5 on veteran used to ignore the fact you killed an enemy and would just have a floating gun shoot you, or theyd teleport grenades behind your cover

IIRC on Diety the AI starts with 2 settlers, a couple workers, some warriors and a scout, and when the AI settles a city every tile in its borders becomes improved instantly.

I remember Perfect Dark on N64 had multiplayer bots that would cheat if you turned the difficulty high enough. The hardest bots knew where everyone was on the map at all times and had 100% accuracy. If you had radar turned off the bot would literally teleport itself around the map to fuck you.
