Crash 1's level design isn't stupid (for the most part), it just demands almost maddeningly flawless execution to progress. 90% of jumps HAVE to be pixel perfect and you've gotta do a fair bit of reading the level design a step or two ahead of your next immediate move. This shit requires some forethought in your execution. Still a platformer through and through, I can definitely see how a patient/attentive kid can make their way through this just fine. But it's a steep challenge for sure, they don't make em' like this anymore.

It'd a 95% faithful remake, with the only differences being mostly cosmetic/audio and just a tiny bit more floaty controls. This was also what made me pick up a PS4 pro a month ago after 10 years of being a PC Fat and so far no regrets. Although the PS4 library is kind of small.

If you're a PC Fat as well, you have to get the Pro. I've seen some of my games run in my friend's regular PS4 and the framers te drops are godawfully noticeable.

The High Road and Slippery Climb are easily the hardest levels in the trilogy, maybe even the series.
Slippery Climb is bullshit because of how much bullshit you have to overcome to reach that first checkpoint.
High Road is fucking nonsense because of the horrible hitbox on the turtles. You can very easily slip off the side of them when jumping from one to the other.

That being said, this is still a great game.

You know, I didn't miss the D-Pad when I played Crash 1 initially but yeah, it's better than the analog stick. Aside from weird ass moments like that u-turn jump for those first 2 boxes in Lost City, this game really does work on a glorified 2D plane most of the time. It makes a surprising amount of sense in practice.

It's actually less floaty now, so the tolerances for what used to be simple jumps are a lot tighter.

Best example is The High Road, where you could previously just bounce straight up in the air on the turtles, move forwards, and make all the jumps. Now you actually need to perform a running jump onto the turtles in order to get enough forward momentum to make certain crossings.

The High Road is harder now because of two things:

1: Jumping has changed significantly and is less floaty. You cannot just jump from standing or without forward momentum and make any jump any more.

2: The turtles have much smaller hitboxes, meaning that if you need to make a running jump onto them you have far less leeway - you'll either miss them entirely or slide off them.

These combine into the big problem people have with The High Road. You NEED to make running jumps onto a flipped turtle in order to make certain jumps, because you can no longer just bounce straight off them without a run up and cross the gaps.

Yeah that's what I was getting at. In the original, they don't jump so that's your tip that something is off.

In the remake the loading screens warn you that something isn't quite as it appears. For The Eel Deal, this is the only tip off that you get about how to get to the green gem, unlike the original where there's literally no tips or indications that you can jump through the wall, unlike this level with the purple gem where the hint you get is that the nitros don't bounce.

Crash 1 plays a lot more like Crash 2/3 with no momentum in his jumps.

Getting a checkpoint in all three games (bar the colour gem levels in Crash 1) will save box progress BUT NOT enemies killed unlike the originals.

The Motorbike in 3 starts to become unresponsive to turning the longer you have Boost activated (makes the first motorbike level insanely difficult to get platinum relic)

The Airplane levels are easier in 3 bar Rings of Power which is far more difficult because the plane WILL NOT FUCKING TURN WHEN YOU ARE BOOSTED.

That's all I've noticed so far.

It's more because, as children, we were a lot more inclined to master these things. Most games were hard (I started on the fucking Commodore 64!) so you were one with the difficulty, it was the norm. Nowadays you're catered to a lot and society has changed. A game doesn't feel "right" when you can't beat a level. Back in the day, it was accepted as perfectly natural.

I adapted to it, finished Crash 1 100% and I'm still not all that happy with the jumping. Like, yes it's doable but there's jumps that should be simple that aren't any more.

Also they need to either fix the turtle hitboxes or make you bounce high off the first impact rather than having to flip them first because you cannot make certain jumps without a running start onto a flipped turtle bounce.

Vicarious Visions can't even spell correctly, let alone remake a game up to par with the originals.
For any prospective buyers the only worthwhile additions are the relics. If you don't care about competing online with people don't bother. The physics are all off in certain places, the soundtrack is missing instruments and lacks punch (everything is fucking techno), the visuals lack detail in most levels, the water looks like liquid shit and the animations are garbage. It's perfectly playable despite all of that, but yeah if you don't care about PSN trophies or relics for the first two games then don't bother and just play the original games.

Whatever type of relic you get, even if you get sapph then gold on the same level, it's still considered to be one relic. However you don't need to get each type individually. It's really just for bragging rights, save for the fireworks show by Coco if you get at least all gold relics.

The game is only set to render a certain amount of polygons at any one time. The polygons that are rendered depends on the positioning of the camera, so most stuff that is outside the normal (i.e. 4:3 resolution) camera view isn't drawn. This saves memory. So when you force a widescreen resolution, you can see the polygons that aren't being rendered.

Get all clear gems (you need all colored gems and keys to do that) and then follow the gem path in the great hall.

You only need the gems.

Once you do that, go back to the Great Hall and the gems will form a path that takes you to the secret ending.

The "true" ending is actually fighting Cortex since Crash 2 starts literally at the moment Crash 1 ends.

Relics are completely ancillary. You reach 100% just by getting all the gems. I haven't dived into relics yet so I don't know if they add percentage like Warped's 105%

Nioh is severaly underrated. In my opinion its a fantastic game, especially now after the big patch that fixed levels, and several bugs and mechanics. They also introduced PvP along with Dragon of the North DLC (It was worth buying it). So far I have over 250 hours in Nioh and I'm still having a blast with it. Go for it, anon. You won't regret it, I promise. However, like I said, there's A LOT of mechanics you need to learn to git gud at Nioh and understand how the game plays.
