To be fair, that's literally not a punishment. You were rewarded for buying digital at full price when you could easily buy the game physically on day 1 for 20% off.
Also, Club Nintendo points did expire but it was after 2 years rounded up to end of the Club Nintendo year which begun in July if I remember correctly.

The My Nintendo rewards are almost entirely inexcusably shitty though. They should get rid of the coupons and replace it with a bit of eShop credit like they did with the Wii U digital deluxe promotion. Basicallly, spend a cumulative $50 on the eShop and get $5 eShop credit. Very fair and straightforward.

No, you idiot. I'm saying it's retarded to think that just because some snot-nosed kid today can't unfold a map of the Precursors ruins that video games will stop being popular. Compared to the past, there are now hundreds of ways to discuss video games.

That's like saying movies are going to die out because kids can't get a piping hot pizza after stopping by the video store for some VHS movies and a copy of SMRPG with all the saves full so you gotta delete the one with the least progress but you're going to feel like shit because maybe that kid barely gets to play games.
>>

I really wish they'd give more and better discounts for platinum coins. I have a shitload that will slowly go to waste. They'd sell so many more games if the discounts were 50% to 75% on a better selection of games.

They really are missing out

But seriously though, kids don't actually like games that much at all anymore, they care much more about the youtubers that play them.
My little brother "loves" games and all he wants is CoD, AssCreed and GTA, and every other game he claims to "love" is just one he watched on youtube. I know a lot of kids like this.
They'll play 1-2 games and watch the rest but pretend they play them.

The nostalgia baiting to Nintendo power is retarded. I can wake up one morning and see a 1 hour gamexplain discussion and get that bit of excitement, but far more frequently. In the old days, the closest thing you'd get to seeing what other fans had to think was in "The Pulse" section of the magazine. I remember one issue where a fan was shitting on Twilight Princesses art style and saying wind waker looked better. In todays age though, ALL of us can do that, and we can interact with one another. It's so much better today.

>>382410995
>Suggest some games to your little brother, but if he's not interested, so what?
because its sad to see him "be really into games" but never actually play them, same with his friends.

It'd be like growing up loving movies and appreciating well thought out cinematography, then 10 years later your bother tells you about how much he loves movies too and you get stoked to talk about them with him
But you find out he doesn't actually watch any movies and just watches other people watching movies and talks to you about the funny things the youtube person did while watching a movie

I recognize that its a generational shift, but its a literal example of "YOU'RE HAVING FUN WRONG"
They're doing it fucking wrong.
I love videogames, I grew up loving videogames, but they aren't even playing them.
Just fucking play the games, if its hard practice, thats what makes games fun.
The worst thing is that these kids "HAVING FUN WRONG" are impacting MY fun because they're the new target audience and games are pandering to people that literally don't want to play them and just like to pretend they do.
>>
>>382411281

Weird. I remember a time when people were getting gimped arcade ports with significantly lowered difficulty. A time when virtual reality was getting pushed hard. A time when consoles started focusing on shooters you don't play with a mouse. That time cartoons and movies were being put in terrible quality on any platform they could. Webcams on consoles. Motion controls.

people found a way to redeem codes for Wii Minis without actually buying one and started redeeming hundreds of Wii minis on club nintendo for essentially unlimited coins. So they could redeem as many rewards as they wanted for free, including physical rewards.
Thounsands of people were doing this on multiple alt accounds before Nintendo even announced that they were shutting it down, and after the announcement it just got worse and every reward was almost instantly gone because of the people scamming free coins.
It was a really shitty way for the rewards program to end if you were just a regular customer wanting to spend his legitimate coins

If you were a regular customer you would have already gotten everything available because they didn't change shit for MONTHS
It only fucked over poorfags who tried to get codes legit because they're dumb

I got all of those posters, they look really fucking nice. They're bigger than you would expect and they're printed on this high quality glossy paper, the image quality is surprisingly great too.
too bad I was a fucking retard and put them up with tape because I never considered that I'd have to take them down some day

I would rather have the Kirby frisbee or SNES Classic Controller than any of that.

Man Nintendo really has went to shit in just three years. Wtf happened? They were the chosen ones
>>
>>382413435
It's funny how the only things I never got were the Kirby patches. I put them off and they vanished once NA decided to have nothing but greeting cards.

>>382413435
I wish i'd gotten the puzzle. I picked up every game, the XL pouch, a couple game cases, and 2 of the bags.

Still use one bag for my D&D stuff, the other i gave to my brother for his stuff.
>>
>>382413849
I never got them because I saw no use for them. They were yet another single-use item.

The only things I ever bothered getting from Club Nintendo were digital games from the final awards set. Got EarthBound, NES Remix, NES Remix 2, Grill-Off with Ultra Hand, Doc Louis' Punch-Out, and Dr. Luigi. Ended up having like 20 coins left, so I think I made out pretty well.
>>
>>382413695

Didn't they go all digital in the last year?

I still have three or four poster sets. I think I missed out on the second to last Platinum poster set.
>>
>>382414380
I wasn't going to use them either, but I had a lot of Wii Mini coins and I figured I might as well get the stuff I didn't already have thanks to Wii homebrew.

FUCK man, this
when even a game like Persona 5 has this shit now
there's no going back man

I never cheated. I had a bunch of games with unused codes because I never saw a reason to get a CN account. There were never any rewards worth a fuck, so when I heard they were closing it down I decided to register a bunch of codes just to get as many free games I could.

We're going further down the hole with paid mods as well.
Don't expect a crash, the publishers control almost every aspect of the industry these days.

god I forgot about this

>Don't expect a crash, the publishers control almost every aspect of the industry these days.
How the fuck do we stop this shit. I dont want us to become a full commercialized industry where the consumer is beholden to the dev. What do we do bros to break control from these greedy fucks? At the same time, consumers are fucking enabling this shit faster than we can stop it. What the fuck do we do? Just let it happen?
>>
>>382414717
What we really need to save the industry is a rejection of publishers.
Physical copies fucking suck now anyway since you just get a cheap flimsy case, no manual and almost no special little bonuses like coins or posters.
Devs should just start ditching publishers all together and resort to crowdfunding or smaller scale projects that they can publish themselves on steam and shit.

We need to see more devs just say "fuck it, this is terrible, I want to make good games"
Its just a fucking shame kickstarter is mostly used by scam artists and has left a bad taste in peoples mouths so the genuine devs can't succeed with it.

I might have been the only one to do it, but I'd spend a few hours a month searching through eBay for DS, Wii, 3DS, and Wii U auctions that had open cases or boxes with CN codes.

I got more than enough coins. I had enough to buy the Luigi statue, but I tired out entering codes and doing surveys hours before it went out of stock. So I had to settle on game cases and 3DS cases. Then I got banned for having accounts for the same address.

I have four poster sets (Luigi's Mansion/SS/Kid Icarus, two SSB sets, and DK), the Pikmin tote bag, and Nintendo messenger bag.

funny how all the scam artists are the devs of things you praised as a kid

no no, fucking no. that indie shit is exactly why steam is shit now and why greenlight is gone. It's saturated with shitty games that barely have any skill behind it. The indie rage is literally becoming the atari crash again with how saturated the pc market is.

>>382414798
You'd basically have to have unlimited money and get lucky with an extremely popular new IP, set an industry standard, and not be a total fucking retard on social media.
So be a better publisher, is really it. You have to remember that most of the people who make the choices are not people who play games, but people who just want to squeeze more money out of the consumers.
tl;dr shits fucked get a different hobby

>no no, fucking no. that indie shit is exactly why steam is shit now and why greenlight is gone. It's saturated with shitty games that barely have any skill behind it.

There is a difference between "indie pixel trash" and "smaller scale games"

A game doesn't need a budget in the hundreds of millions to be good.
Graphics and marketing shouldn't be what decides the fate of a good game.
More devs should just focus on making unique and fun games with lots of content and leave graphics as an after thought. Good art direction is still important, but it the game doesn't need to be photo realistic and have 10 hours of expensive cut scenes.

The reason why we had so many great games in previous gens is because they didn't cost so fucking much to make, devs could take risks and try making ambitious things. These days it costs so much to make a 'proper' game that you always have to play it safe because its just not worth losing that much money on a game that people might not like.

I can't believe I've gotten to a point where I miss fucking Club Nintendo.

The idea of not getting rewarded for physical but you are for digital is such bullshit.
