I didn't know if you were touting Geist as something incredibly original or not and just wanted to point out the mechanic isn't new.

But what else is there to really add? Even the true Super Mario Bros. 2 was seen as an extension of the original but with increased difficulty and new items. There will be no big jump like 2D to 3D. Even the neat effect of gravity in Galaxy wasn't entirely new since they toyed with that in that Yoshi's Island moon boss fight and that handheld game where you tilted it to move things.

I'm not saying I wouldn't enjoy something truly innovative, new or impressive, but what else can they really do other than revisit older mechanics, revise or twist them into something slightly different? Anything too gimmicky would turn off some players.

I felt that the the Moon boss from Yoshi's Island was a very one off thing.

The Galaxy series took the gameplay mechanic there and fully fleshed it out and made it the centerpiece.

I'm not really experienced with that since I don't own anything of the sort nor does anyone I know irl. I think if they were to take Mario into VR they'd have to definitely build it around that tech and not just slap him into a game. Just tossing it out there would be like when devs would just toss games onto Wii with bad motion controls.
