The perfect base builder
hey
with one of the greatest main themes of all time
>>382391890
dude the fucking shininess to everything, like the pristine reflections off the floors/walls of the base, was god-tier comfy.
>>382391890
>mfw spending an hour setting up trap combos while burglars stealing my golds and minions dying left and right on world maps
>>382391987
Dwarf fortress isn't perfect and is pretty easy with the amount of broken mechanics.
>>382391890
This game was sweet but it lost steam. The stylized graphics were amazing, PCs were just good enough to render the necessary visuals (where as something like No One Lives Forever looks a little janky nowadays)
The Heroes were really just an annoyance to deal with. Also I found the infinite money exploit only the second time I played it, and the fun for me always because packing as much as I could into the first island.
It would honestly work really well with a modern sequel.
>>382392357
>It would honestly work really well with a modern sequel.
Hope you like Facebook games then.
>>382391890
1. freezers not big enough
2.guys stop getting caught in the trap mazes
3. STOP RUNNING THROUGH THE FIRE TO GET THE FIRE EXTINGUISHERS
4. just send in ivan
>its a chinese super agent episode
>>382392357
Modern sequels to classic niche PC games are usually not very good.
See: Majesty, Heroes of Might and Magic
>>382396503
What was wrong with Majesty 2?
I streamed this for /v/ a few years ago and turned a few dozen anons onto it. It was super great.
It's in my top 10 of all time. It's far from perfect, but it's god damn fun.
>>382394613
Rambo was fucking worse, he's like Red Ivan
>>382391890
It was too good for this world. We will never see it's likeness again.
>>382392021
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SFw_48vv5NQ
>>382392539
I made the mistake of clicking the red alert / max alarm button with Ivan in the base once. Exactly once.
Never again.
What made him think doing what he did was a good idea? In a hallway full of our own people?
>>382397732
>it's likeness
>>382397935
>>382396503
Majesty was so fucking good
Hows Prison Architect as a base builder?
I was playing that earlier today, I'm trying a social heavy minion force this time instead of just having my base on full alert 24/7 with a 'balanced' misx of dudes
>>382398824
I have it, and really like it, but I'm not a big fan of the aesthetic and I know it's petty but that factors into my enjoyment so idk what to say
>Third island, near the end of the game
>See that the secret agents are still trying to get me
>Build a trap that is two hall ways. One leads to the base and the second loops around to a squad of soldiers
>They keep going down the one with soldiers.
Anyone bother with the hotel? It's useless as shit but the nice piano tunes from it was great
>>382399021
You have to build it close enough to the base entrance, building it far away don't do nuthing
But its expensivbe
>Get to the end, start building the rocket
>Nonstop fucking intruders
>Hallways are just mountains of dead soldiers
>Prison is full of jailbreaks every second
Felt like the end of a Bond film. Hectic as shit.
>>382399021
I tried a few times but it was far easier and cheaper to just capture or kill the tourists.
i tried to play this one but im not sure if its shit or if im just retarded
base building thread?
>>382399021
I found the hotel to be an interesting end game challenge, just running it.
>>382399476
What game please?
>>382399526
Banished. I wouldn't consider it a base builder though.
anybody else pumped for frostpunk?
this war of mine was pretty grandit drove me nuts how the workbench in the second house would have a floating backboard and you couldn't fucking move it someplace better
>>382399476
Looks like a fire trap.
>>382399623
>>382399526
>>382399476
more of a city builder, I guess
the field's so goddamn sparse in both genres that we might as well talk about bothinb4 some asshole starts talking about city builders where the only resources you collect are taxes
>>382399659
>a river AND stream right next door
>fire trap
c'mon now, anon
I just grabbed the screenshot from google, regardless
>>382391890
factorio is better
>>382398824
Really good, but you'd be surprised just how fast everything can go to shit if one prisoner too many gets pissed off.
There needs to be more games with the james bond style evil genius theme to it.
>>382391890
>There will never be a sequel
>a good sequel
>>382399880
It's got none of the style or charm though.
>>382400003
>james bond style evil genius theme
it seems like you'll be able to steal world landmarks and probably do other world stage shenanigans
knowing kalypso, it's going to be half baked, but it seems like they're giving it a good shot
>those disgusting looking absolutely non-comfy looking bridges
god I hope it's not stupid
>>382400094
Neither has tetris but tetris is the only arguably perfect game.
Besides this shit is subjective.
>muh muh style
ltos of game that era had similiar style.
Grim fandango also kinda goofy colorful game.
Dungeon master, literally same goofy colorful game.
Its just despicable me without kids in it.
Compare it to factorio using sprites in 2017.
And factorio has plenty of charm, atleast for me.
No other game feels like it.
But its all subjective anyway. Factorio is just the better, more interesting game that elevates base building to another level.
>>382400398
don't be pissy, anon
step aside
I'm here to save base building
>>382400571
>early access
>30 bucks
No you aren't saving anything at all.
>>382400372
I really really did not like tropico 4s style
Can't tell whether 6 is a big improvement
Anyone remember the n1nj4 forums? They had dozens of mods for this game but i think they went down since i can't access it anymore
>>382391890
yup
>>382400398
>Tetris is perfect
I think a lot of people confuse "barbones to the point of everything aside from the core mechanic being irrelevant and therefore not really worth criticising" with perfection, and it never makes sense.
Pong is "perfect"
Asteroids is "perfect"
It's meaningless
>>382400571
>rimworld
aside from 1 item needing 1 tile to store it and having 90% of your base dedicated to storing garbage, it's pretty good
>>382400916
>tropico 4's style
whaddya mean? like, gameplay, or what
>>382401168
>everything aside from the core mechanic
What else is there to tetris aside from the core mechanic?
I just want a game where you build dungeons with traps and monsters.
>>382401295
No no it's gameplay was solid I just thought the game looked like a kind of depressing mid 2000's "trying to be too realistic without the resources allocated to back it up" aesthetic that rubbed me the wrong way
5 was a bit more stylised, I appreciated it, and hope they continue in that direction
>>382401512
this?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxBOGIudr8E
looks neet but don't know what you do.
>>382401475
There is a game called dungeon keeper, look into it. It's exactly what you're looking for.
>>382398407
nope, doesn't exist
nice mockup faggot
>>382401638
>trying to be too realistic without the resources allocated to back it up
oh I get it
it's true, but I really liked the mechanics so I didn't mind
new one seems like they're doing a bunch of the shit fans wanted, like bridges and bringing back campaign speeches
>>382401360
Presentation, which as I said I'd all but irrelevant. I just think that describing such a rudimentary mechanic as perfect is meaningless because nobody's going to say it's shit, it's just not interesting on its own. Describing a games quality only makes sense to me when it comes to encompass the interaction of a number of well developed mechanics that come together to create a compelling experience
>>382401690
Yeah, forget about dungeon builder, it's not what you're looking for.
>>382401742
This and the Badman games
>>382401742
I was thinking of a more condensed game. Like something where you build dungeons and have like a single giant monster in them and some smaller monsters. Some traps and all that.
this felt more like an RTS, I'd figure it more as a tower defense game.
Something like deception even.
>>382401742
All I want to know is
Once EA ate shit for their incredibly greedy garbage dungeon keeper phone game, why did they kill it without just REUSING ALL THE ASSETS AND MECHANICS TO RELEASE AN UNLOCKED PC VERSION AT A FIXED PRICE, IT WAS GUARANTEED TO SELL YOU STUFF GREEDY FUCKS
GET RID OF HAVING TO PAY MONEY TO TAKE X ACTIONS WITHIN AN HOUR AND YOU JUST HAVE A NORMAL, PLAYABLE GAME
>>382401962
>>382399001
>third island
There are only two islands.
>>382399760
So how about that Transport Tycoon Deluxe?
>>382403682
never tried it
was more of a simtower man, myself
>>382404035
SimTower was THE shit.
>>382404282
no anon
it is you who is the shitI miss maxis
>>382401743
>>382398407
Now I'm mad.
>>382399001
>third island
There's only two. Stop lying on the internet to impress people
>>382404467
Maxis didn't even make SimTower. They just branded it after buying the rights to publish it in the west.
>>382404282
SimTower was great
I got Project Highrise in the Humble Bundle but its just not the same
>>382391890
> tfw teaching my son how to play this.
>>382407510
Borderline child abuse, buy him Minecraft or an Xbox or something.
>n-no he's going to be just as autistic as me
>Try android game
>It's casual as fuck
>>382401934
I thought those games were super neat because you had to focus on the ecology instead of the economy. And it was really hard to keep in mind that the tunnels you clear out spawning/raising monsters were the same ones adventurers had to go through so I'd always win by the skin of my teeth as wizards and shit went wild in my big open caverns.
The third game is my favorite even though I'm not a huge fan of water and water monsters because there are just so many wild and crazy mutations/evolutions and then monster intelligence was a cool feature when it actually worked. Omnom larva would make towering hives that lizardmen would convert into tribal totems to zap lightning at intruders and slimes would release little flowers carried off into the breeze to who knows where.
They're making a new game. I don't think it looks that good and I don't have $400 to play it, but at least it hasn't been abandoned.
:(
>>382391890
>only one island
>that whole corpse system
