the ones where you browse the web, stream, and watch things on another monitor at the same time. what are you, some kind of single-tasker?

>what are you, some kind of single-tasker?
Yes, how do I git gud? Virtual desktops?
>>
>>382389234

Literally fucking nothing.

Despite what every mouth breathing agenda enforcing AMD retard shill claims, most logic for games still occurs in one thread.

Single core IPC still rules.

Intel claims Destiny will utilize every available core, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was found out some dumb shit feature 'needs its own core' to properly function or some shit like that in an attempt to sell more intel shit, basically something that didn't need to happen.

This, if Destiny 2 doesn't get a 100% performance gain per core, then Intel and Bungie are running a scam.

Unless there's some small code that makes it run like ass if it's not an Intel proc.

No fucking games actually utilize 3 cores to their potential because multithreaded encoding requires balance and it's a fucking nightmare unless you're just coding something to feed shit as fast as possible like with encoding software.

Anyone else who claims otherwise doesn't now what the fuck they're talking about.

I challenge anyone to make a game that supports 20 cores.
>>
>>382390292
It seems destiny 2 is being built from the ground up to take advantage of PCs. Hopefully it will take advantage of atleast quad/hyper-8 processors and just load balance on anything higher
>>
>>382389234
What if you were to give this CPU to, say, twenty... intelligent people i mean, what would that do? Let's face it what would it do?
>>
>>382390069
On Linux at least its very easy to set a game to only use specific cores, restricting them to a single CCX which is good for performance.

Plus I know virtual desktops are a novelty on Windows and still not well integrated but they've been the norm on Linux now for decades and yes they're invaluable for multi-tasking with full screen games on a single display.
>>
>>382390292
The single core IPC of the Ryzen is not that bad at all.
It's no kaby lake but it's miles ahead of the garbage AMD was putting out.
>>
>>382390981
you have to first challenge someone to make an engine that uses 20 cores.

your computer is outdated technology. The components are mass produced consumer rubbish of tech invented over a decade ago that has just become so cheap to manufacturer

>>382392082
what if i don't care about streaming and just want to play games

It probably will.

The Division was already able to use multiple threads and cores even in DX11

The engine it runs on is very good
>>
>>382392064
>>382390981
This might be a dumb question, but aren't programs coded to make use of any extra threads they can run, like automatically?
>>
>>382390981
It's not as hard as you would think, there's just no reason to.

The more threads you create, the more CPUs you use.
But in practice, the more threads you have doing the same thing, the harder it gets due all the nasty race conditions and load balancing.
And there are certain things you just CAN'T parallelize at all.
