>>
>>382371257
Wait, how does this work?
You borrow money to finish a game, and if you can't pay it back, they take ownership over the project?
What good is it to them if it's unfinished?
>>
>>382371976
Source Code, Art Assets, Music, Writing... ETC
If they do make the game and make enough money, they owe ~150% of what they got in Loan, which has to be payed back first.
Pretty penny is pretty.
>>
>>382371976

>>
>>382371976
Well they borrowed money as an advance on a tax credit they will be receiving from the UK government for having one of their three studios there. I'm not sure why the loan requires collateralization of... everything, unless it's a dumbass bet on the british government reneging on tax credits in the wake of brexit.

Their lawyer/co-founder said on their forums that it's a totally standard collateral arrangement, but it sure as shit doesn't sound like one.
>>
>>382370875
2025
>>
>>382372218
If you read it, it goes over that they have less money than the tax credit is worth (which is in the <1M range, so they have less than that)
that is why they have to bring up collateral; they have no guarantee that the game will be made.

The backing clause says that they only have to spend a "certain amount" of the money the game.

Same legal entity; they all share rights and money pool; Loan applies to all of them
>>
>>382372447
Foudnry 42 is the German sect of CIG, they don't work on Star Citizen. They work on the single player Squadron 42.
>>
>>382371976

Forgot to add in >>382372218 they also claimed they're doing this to get around exchange rates. Like, get the loan in the currencies they need now than lose money on currency exchanges at the end of the year when the pound may have fluctuated some. However this makes absolutely no sense, whoever issued the loan has no incentive on this unless there's interest on the premium, and that interest would need to be better than the lender just buying 5 million pounds worth of american t-bills or something. Which would mean they're probably going to end up paying more money in the long run than if they got their 5 mil tax credit at the end of the year and lost some to currency exchange.

It's total bullshit, they need the 5 mil now, and not at the end of the year, and they're spinning bullshit excuses to make it seem like they're fine.

"Our UK companies are entitled to a Government Game tax credit rebate which we earn every month on the Squadron 42 development. These rebates are payable by the UK Government in the fall of the next following year when we file our tax returns," CIG co-founder and legal counsel Ortwin Freyermuth explained in a forum post.

"Foundry 42 and its parent company Cloud Imperium Games UK Ltd. have elected to partner with Coutts, a highly regarded, very selective, and specialized UK banking institution, to obtain a regular advance against this rebate, which will allow us to avoid converting unnecessarily other currencies into GBP. We obviously incur a significant part of our expenditures in GBP while our collections are mostly in USD and EUR. Given today's low interest rates versus the ongoing and uncertain currency fluctuations, this is simply a smart money management move, which we implemented upon recommendation of our financial advisors."

As for the collateral, Freyermuth described it as "absolutely standard and [pertaining] to our UK operation only." The "prime collateral" on the loan is actually the rebate entitlement itself, he continued, and while the UK-based companies guarantee repayment, the posting of other collateral—which, he noted, "specifically excludes Star Citizen"—"is a formality and nothing else."

"This security does not affect our UK companies’ ownership and control of their assets," Freyermuth wrote. "Obviously, the UK Government will not default on its rebate obligations which will be used for repayment, and even then the UK companies have ample assets to repay the loan."

They're stated purpose is that the pound will continue going up post-brexit decline, and their revenue stream from backers comes mostly in USD, so they'll lose out on exchanges. This doesn't really hold water, because what's in it for the lender if they're going to collect less than the difference in exchange loss RSI would incur by not getting advances. The reality is RSI is going to be paying more in interest on these loans than they'd lose exchanging USD for GBP over the next couple years, and it's likely because they really do need the advance.

Do you know how much one million dollars is? You could live off of it for the rest of your life. They probably took some of the money for themselves and then just let the game run dry so they could just live on this money they took and not have to worry about making this huge ass fucking game.

"Investment" implies some chance of getting a return, possibly even a profit. Nobody who "invested" in a $2,000 virtual spaceship is going to see that money again.
>>
>>382375041
Uh except you forgot that they're doing this to save on taxes (supposedly). They can write off some of the expense as business expense (no idea how, unless they're going to buy real estate or lease / renew leases on equipment with the loan)
>>
>tfw you will never join a ragtag bunch of players
>you will never coordinate to go after a whale that blew tons of cash into the yuuuge ship
>you will never gank in groups, launching out of the airlock to board the ship and fight in the corridors
>you will never reach the bridge, kill everybody in there, jump on the command console and warp out to a predetermined spot
>you will never laugh and cheer as you stole the biggest ship in existence
>you will never live adventures with your group as camaraderie and drama follows the ship around, going into hiding, staying at the fringe, making truces and alliances to survive
>you will never become the rally point for a massive PvE event as you lead the ship and many fleets in a valiant battle, following you to the battle lines due to friendship and brotherhood

You're worse than reddit at this point, lmao.

can't you do all that in eve minus the in-ship stuff
>>

Judging by the weekly progress updates one more year.
The complete rework of most of the game systems and visual assets really pushed it back, but i think the results are really impressive.
I cant wait to see the volumetric prehashed particle animations in work, the sneak peak looked insane, while nothing new tech wise no game really used it yet outside of cinematic sequences

>>382372896
Its really not that much in modern aaa market. Some Publishers blow 200mln$ on marketing alone, and while most publishers rarely give out full numbers salaries alone for a staff of well over 300 people would go up 25mln$ a year. 5 years is a lot of time to build up costs.

Plus the various interactions withing the ship as i assume various people might be needed in order to run it at full capacity

They can't write off interest on this loan as a business expense, and the way they pay these loans back is a tax credit they're already slated to receive in Fall 2018. It won't cover the interest though, so they're losing money in the long run for capital in the short run, which hints at them running out of money right now.
>>
>>382379901
sorry let me correct myself, only half of the game has been put up as collateral towards a loan. happy now?
>>
if 3.0 isn't fun to play then I'll probably stop following this game at all until it's "finished"

but the conspiracy bullshit is really annoying. I get retarded articles like that suggested to me in google because I searched this game before. The fanatical haters are 10x worse and more dangerous to society than any star citizen fan. I hope no one gets hurt.
>>
>>382370875
Never. It is a scam. I don't feel bad the idiots that payed for this garbage, paying for something that doesn't exist .

I'm sure there are lots of things he has purchased in life after he starting Star Citizen. Once starting a project does he have to cease ever purchasing stuff for himself? I don't understand.

>>382380168
all i ever hear from star citizen fanboys is how 'fun' the game is to play in its current state. from what i hear they are having a blast in the dogfighting module and the uh... arena shooter module? i dunno what these guys are actually doing in the game because they never post videos or webms of all the 'fun' they are having

They're having fun imagining using those systems to interact with the complete game once it's done.
>>
>>382380407
tbqh I did have genuine fun when I first got into the game because I was into all the flight simulator stuff and I had a joystick and throttle etc.

/vg/ used to post webms all the time but it gradually died because there wasn't much new content to try

they're pretty much changing or remaking everything they've released so far, the ships, the UI, the displays in the cockpit, the balance and weapons, etc. so it's pretty pointless to play it now and pretend you're a pilot or something
>>
>>382380407

This. Don't listen to these scam citizen shills.
Part of the money is going to these little turds. I know these because in a thread that was 5 months ago I managed to get a confession from one of these anons.

>10 million is not much money
It is enough money even if you spend in stupid shit. These bastard with all that time, all the money, a lot of workers couldn't even finish half of the game.

Why is this not in /pol/ ?
We should make a thread of the scam.
>>
>>382381257
It's not officially a scam because they release techdemos to backers which are constantly reworked and remade and don't represent what the final game is supposed to be at all but who cares I love Star Citizen!

If that game had an actual interface for doing the big managerial actions, i would never stop playing it. Well ok, that and an actual simulation rather than its director shit.
But just imagine, you can like, zoom out of your ship into a sins of a solar empire -esque view of the universe and set up all the shit you need to build as well as control your ships everywhere.

>>382385903
I used to feel like this until I found out there wasn't any Eve Online tier manufacturing side of things, though I'll reserve any total dismissive feelings on the depth of the MMO side of the gameplay until I see economy mechanics in game.
