Yes, it's well-known Disney had trouble with its movies when CGI started taking off.

Fun facts: When Brother Bear was being produced the Disney execs did everything they could to make sure the movie would flop in order for them to end traditional animation (I guess Pixar and Dreamworks popularity had an influence).

And when it did flop they had no experience or technology like Pixar and made a few mediocre movies. It wasn't until Eisner left the company they realized Pixar's characters were becoming more well-known than Disney's, so they bought up Pixar, moved most of the staff to their animation studio.

That's why you see a lot of "meh" Pixar movies these days and great Disney movies.

That's the thing. It's a Princess Movie; the first Disney did in like, a decade. Princess movies are always cash cows, so they expected to go all out on it.

It doesn't really do anything terribly interesting with the setting, only a few odd jokes to remind you the characters are literal cars and otherwise could have been entirely about people who race these cars. It's like if Toy Story didn't have any humans in it and it was just about Woody getting over being jealous of his new neighbor Buzz Lightyear and occassionally someone lost an arm or something to remind you DUDE WE'RE TOYS BUT WE TALK LIKE PEOPLE LMAO.

This problem never gets solved and every movie just feels like generic, soulless garbage because the fact that they're cars is only relevant from a marketing standpoint and not to the actual story.
