I've been playing it for the last few days again. It hasn't aged well, but it's not bad. Music is pretty great and the gameplay is more fun than LoS. Hate the realtime menu, though.

Curse of Darkness is a better game mechanically, though.

I agree with the soundtrack. Shit is atmospheric as hell, I remember the spiral stairs leading to the basement, hearing the constant noise of looming danger as you got farther down. Made me shit my pants as a kid.

Curse of Darkness was so much better

Campaign was short but sweet, wifi mode was loads of fun (at least in short bursts before your hands would cramp from the awkward controls). More importantly, at the time I was just thrilled to have a Metroid Prime experience on the go. It was a decent game for 2006, it has just aged really poorly.

2D metroidfags never gave it a chance. 3D metroid fans hated the controls. Overall it was met with a resounding "meh" from critics and players alike. The fan reaction was nowhere near as negative as Federation force, but a decade on from its release it is basically the forgotten stepchild of Metroid Prime games.
