I can respect you for liking SH2 and maybe even SM, story-wise, but Downpour's story was awful and tried way too hard to be SH2 without any of the charm or focus.

Besides, Silent Hill has other things going for it too, like horror, which SH2, SM and DP sorely lack.

Eh, it's hit and miss. I think SH1 did a solid job of focusing more on the confusion and darkness of the town more-so than on the cult itself.

SH3 had a lot of great moments, but I think the gung-ho revenge story against the cult was a pretty weak turn for it.

Guys what do you think of silent hill origin? Does it hold water against the team silent's game?
If so which version should I get?
Also is it spooky or what?
Also any other recommendations of ps1 game? So far, I played s1 and clock tower

Given how important the story is in Silent Hill games, i have to rank Origins above Downpour and below Shattered Memories, but they are all pretty low in my opinion.

The nicest thing I can say about it is the music's good.

I feel like they had some fun ideas for puzzles and stories with Travis's issues and the ability to jump back and forth between the dark world and normal world, but everything feels run through the wringer for the sake of referencing SH1 characters, regardless of whether they actually have anything to do with Travis's story.

Both the cult storyline and the psychosis from SH 2 are piss poor plot points. Silent Hill is an underwhelming mess once you look back at it but if you forget the godawful narrative there's plenty of aesthetic to be embraced.

Mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
The "sh2proxy" is a all-in-one fix, that works as a no-cd crack as well. It is included in the pack.
If you use the NEW fix mentioned in the guide, you can use the sh2proxy's EXE as the no-cd crack!

In case you experience issues saving the game / not being able to edit the disp.ini, make sure the files aren't set to "Read Only", and run the game as Administrator.
If SH2 gets stuck in a black screen upon launch, close it and re-start it again.

SH2-4 do not support Xinput gamepads. Either use Xpadder, a DirectInput pad, or just play with KB+M.
You can now see some decent emulator settings for SH1 as well in the guide. If the image of the game does NOT fill your entire screen in fullscreen mode, check your plugin AND GPU control panel's image scaling settings!
Also give the new PGXP emulator a shot for a lot less wobbly PS1 graphics.

Shattered Memories is the best one in the series.

A lot of people get really hung up on the retcons. Personally, I think it's a decent game but fails primarily because it feels very much like a Silent Hill game by the numbers. One of the biggest strengths of 1-4 is how different they really are, and how each has its own vision with its own strengths/weaknesses. Origins feels like a really high quality fan game in a lot of ways. This is also why Shattered Memories tends to get a thumbs up from people despite its many flaws. It at least tried to do something different, which can't be overvalued in the horror genre.

I felt more in line with Heather when playing all of the Silent Hill games than the other characters.

They start out very creepy and confusing but you become empowered by the end to beat Silent Hill. She goes through the same thing. At the start you're running away. At the end you know how to fight against your fears.

the graphics are damn good for a PS1 title, and the art-directing is superb.

And once again, the most important aspect of creating atmosphere is totally rock-solid in SH1 already: the AUDIO design.
