What CRPG should I play next? I've already finished the Shadowrun games and Underrail. Right now, I'm stuck between buying Divinity: Original Sin and Pillars of Eternity.
Get Pillars of Eternity with the expansions
If you're a pure gameplay kind of guy, then you should get Divinity, since it has the best combat system of the two.
If you care more about everything combined that makes an RPG, then you should get Pillars of Eternity, since it has the best atmosphere, writing, characters, setting, soundtrack, artstyle, etc.
>>382356414
I mean I liked em both. I find Divinity most fun if you have a friend to play with you, it was kinda designed for that.
> Wanted to get Pillars
> Can't anymore because of the price hike
I'm fucking pirating that shit.
I bought Divinity instead.
DivOS is best played with a buddy.
strongly recommend you get someone to play it with
>>382356414
PoE is complete trash while only the story of Divinity is trash. Get Divinity 100%.
They're both excellent.
Pillars is the easy choice there. Divinity's "lel so wacky and randum xD" humor is embarrassing.
>*holds up spork* t3h PeNgU1N oF d00m!!!!!!!!
>>382357305
>>382356414
Both are fine.
I do get absolutely bored out of my mind by divinity once i reach the forest city, had to abandon there 2-3 times. Bunch of bullshit you waddle around with no clear impact or advancement.
I'm at around 500 hours of PoE tho, preparing for Deadfires
>>382356414
If you liked Shadowrun then get PoE
Thanks for the replies. I went with Pillars of Eternity. Should I get the expansion too like >>382356515 said?
PoE is decent, but make sure to the uncensored patch.
Divinity is nice, but II comes out in September, so you may as well just wait for that.
>>382358085
100%, it's the better content. Basically you can do the expac around the middle of act 2 (Defiance Bay) It can be pretty challenging in some spot so getting to lvl 7 or so before attempting it would likely be the best for you.
Also, don't be an hero and jump in straight in ''path of the Damned'' ie Hard mode. You need solid knowledge of the game + mechanics to stand a chance. Do a basic normal or hard playtrough with the help text to get an idea.
Currently going through divinity with my roommate. Goddamn it has a fantastic as fuck coop formula. Excited for divinity 2
>>382358241
>you may as well just wait for that.
what kind of nigger plays a sequel first?
>>382358085
Yeah, they're pretty good
>sequel
It's not like DivOs story is some important thing. it can be resumed in a few sentence
They're both bad. Just replay the Infinity engine games.
>>382358368
>It can be pretty challenging in some spot so getting to lvl 7
I did the White March part 1 on Normal difficulty at level 9 and chose the option to scale up the difficulty, I'm level 11 now and literally cannot do the White Forge battle. My entire party get wiped in seconds. I actually gave up and went back to the main quest.
>>382358569
>>382358487
That can be said about any game, you ltieral retard.
>>382358578
What's your team? What difficulty?
>>382356414
Torment Tides of Numenera. This game was godlike. PoE was ok, but you made a mistake if you bought it, it's boring, the story is dull, and there is way too much combat to pad out the time to spend in it. I also beat it on path of the damned and wouldn't play it again. Torment on the otherhand is a masterpiece.
>>382358710
but you'll lose a shitload of information if you do it for PoE or planescape etc etc
While you can sayYou are the reincarnation of 2 grand generals who were tasked with keeping a void dragon sealed away trying to bring said void dragon down again after you lapsed your watchand not miss much
>>382358784
Cipher main, Eder, Pallegina, Durance, Aloth, and Hiravias. Normal difficulty.
I played most of the game, about 45 hours, up to that point without much trouble but no matter how many times I reload I can't even kill a single forge guardian. I can kill the ghosts though.
>>382358379
Should play both if you have the time, but, if you had to choose between the two, the sequel's story is pretty much entirely separate the various gameplay improvements make it a better game.
>>382359069
That arch si given away from the logs by the third visit to the homestead
>>382356414
Out of those 2 Divinity is the overall better game.
Poe is decent , which already puts it above a lot of other attempts at rpgs but its nothing to write home about.
>>382356414
>What CRPG should I play next?
There's only one RPG on the pic, the other is a h&s shitfest with exactly zero roleplaying, where your character building choices are completely irrelevant outside of combat, since Charisma can be maxed out by random items bought from random vendors the moment you enter Cyseal.
>>382358085
One hint. If you want to play mage, I've been told, cheat to be able to use your spells again and again, instead of vancian makes things fun.
>>382357549
How in the hell do you spend 500 hours in poe.
I played it once at release and played it a second time once all the dlc came out and i was bored out of my mind.
Can only imagine having played it 6+ times
>>382359323
And yes, I have actually played this h&s shitfest.
>>382358085
No need to get the expansion just yet. By the time you finish Act 2, if you're still enjoying yourself, get it at that point.
>>382359390
Either you dont like CRPGs or you're a 90s nostalgiafag, or both
>>382359390
>How in the hell do you spend 500 hours in poe.
That's not hard- 100 hours of play, the rest is loading screens.
>>382359254
its like comparing two turds, id say no, pillars of eternity regardless how poorly written it is, is actually written
while in divinity, the most overhyped RPG of all time, you dont even ha ve written characters, you have choices that you the player make for both conversation sides, and the overarching plot is brain dead simple and generic
atleast pillars of eternity tries to have a plot and characters, and you know, interactions beyond randomly placed enemy encounters
>>382358241
>PoE is decent, but make sure to the uncensored patch.
Literally the only thing that got censored was one backer gravestone. Who cares?
>>382359070
That's a fine party.
Forge gardians got massive defense, so you need to buff/debuff accordingly
You want Aloth to get some blind going (lvl 2 spell) Identify Weakness (lvl 3) also does wonder, reduce deflection and DR
From Durance you want +20 Acc on your dude (lvl 4 spell) Also, if you didn't already have it, inspriring radiance is a marvelous talent (+10 acc in an AoE). Finally, you get the option of resting with a campfire and getting vessel acc bonus (gardians are vessel) for that extra bit
Basically, Acc and Defense are king. So either you buff debuff yourself to high heaven or you build accordingly.
Hitting hard doesn't do shti if you don't hit at all
>>382356885
>price hike was already revoked
>still crying
xD
>>382359618
Ok thanks. On normal difficulty I haven't had to worry about accuracy and defense buffs and debuffs up until this.
>>382359390
By doing different runs. Each in PotD with differing parties
Cipher, Asshole DPS warrior, Ranger with Stormcaller (probably the most broken shit ever) Monk (also broken, jesus) currently doing Eothas Priest for Deadfire. Probably gonna complete barbarian and a ''melee'' wizard by release
>>382360098
Seriously, doing different build runs in PoE is fun as fuck. Compared to Divinity, where you get a paltry number of skillpoints throughout your whole 20 levels, a good chunk of which HAVE to be put into Bodybuilding and Willpower, which means that you end up focusing on 3 skills apart from BB+WP, PoE is a fucking masterpiece when it comes to character building.
>Tried Div:OS three times.
>Only ever make it past Cyseal and into some forest and then all interest is gone.
So many things done so well and wasted on the most bland world ever created.
>>382359867
Yup that's also the reason people shouldn't jump into POTD straight away. PoTD is doable only if you use your buff debuff well. A random shade at the start of POTD as higher stats than a ogre in normal.
>>382356414
Divinity or Age of Decadence
>>382360580
>PoTD is doable only if you use your buff debuff well.
PotD is doable solo with a Fighter, so you're wrong by definition. PotD is hard, but not retardedly hard so that you cannot complete it blind.
>>382359657
It hasn't.
Paradox said it would only drop back after the sale and said it was steam's fault that they couldn't lower it immediately.
And regardless, they still did it.
>>382360760
You seem to have missed the ''buff'' part. All solo runs relies on MASSIVE amounts of buff provided by pots and the like. For priest and Fighter you buff yourself to defense so high you become untouchable then wittle them down with Drawn in Spring or similar
>>382360897
not priest, meant Paladin. Defensive built Paladin are basically untouchable already if built well, with buffs you can tank the dragons with minimal fuss.
>>382356414
Get Div Os
PoE is easily one of the most boring and bland rpgs I've played in my life, the combat is more of a chore than actual content and the characters are all so forgettable that I can only remmeber the crazy priest
Adding to this, the whole Fortress shit was so poorly done that I would have been offended if I was a kikestarter backer
Now, Divinity OS is not perfect, the art style is too cartoony, the story is pretty simplistic and the characters are not that special but the combat alone has made it one of the best rpgs in the last years
Don't let these niggers trick you with PoE, the game is a bore, if you are gonna bite the hook do it after playing something good
>>382361163
Look at this low iq nigger
Look at him and laugh
>>382358085
Yep, the dlc stuff also gives new skill to every class.
>>382356414
I loved divinity with a friend. And I enjoyed the story a lot. It reminded me of a dnd story a friend might have made up or one of those old snes rpgs that were weirdly long as fuck.
A lot of people hate on the writing but I didn't think it was an issue. I kind of think people just complained to complain about it, to be honest. I didn't notice anything weird about it.
>>382361163
The fact that you've managed to die in this shitfest proves your opinion is worth jack shit, LMAO.
do you get to keep your character in poe? say if i do the white march campaigns with one character can i import that character to the main campaign?

>>382361163

>>382361754
they are not separate, WM adds new area
>>382361754
Whole game is same campaign. You can go and leave the dlc area as you please.
I like a few of the cRPGs discussed ITT but can we talk about Wasteland II? I've been playing it over the last few days and am really enjoying it.
>>382361754
The expansion campaign is directly tied in with the main game. You can't start the expansion by itself.
Also, the sequel is gonna have you import your character from the first game (or simulate your choices)
>arguing that PoE's bland writing is better than DivOS's bland writing'
Protip: they're both shit in this departmen, although Divinity doesn't bombard you with pages upon pages of mediocre lore. Gameplay-wise DivOS is miles above Pillows.
>>382361932
I loved it. the second half was a bit rough around the edges I guess, and there's some balance issues I wish they'd fix. do want wasteland 3
Play Morrowind.
>>382362005
PoE has some pretty good writing inside its huge amount of stuff.
Divinity is 3quirky6me bullshit all the way through
>>382361913
>>382361916
>>382361964
thanks anons. i think i'm going to do it. just got done getting 100% on age of decadence and my crpg thirst has not been sated
>I've already finished the Shadowrun games
It doesn't matter what your next pick will be since you firmly established yourself as an eater of low effort shit.
>>382362114
I stop playing wasteland 2 after liberating the mayor on the 2nd zone because the gameplay was becoming boring and the story wasn't going anywhere. Should I get back to it ?
>>382361932
It's alright, there are a few good areas but some are pretty fuckign trash
Act 2 is generally good but shorter.
Biggest problem imo is how the weapons are tiered. You basically rebuy the whole squad arsenal once you reach certain points. if you want to stay competitive and its akward. Kinda like going in the badger mine with tier 1-2 weapons and taking 5 turn to bring down 1 badger, while a tier 3 weapon will handle it in 1
>>382362321
Dragonfall is god tier
>>382362114
What type of balance issues do you refer to? How much of the content did you do? I am trying to go everywhere I can--although not exploring a lot of the overworld just yet--but I'm only 12 hours in and just recently unlocked the Citadel.
>>382362360
Yeah some areas seem fairly generic and pointless. What signifies Act II?
>>382362321
shadowrun is absolutely terrible. i got all the games for like $4 and i still feel ripped off
>>382362160
"Some" must be referring to a really miniscule amount of words. There's what, Durance, Eder, GM, Raedric's shit and the conversations with the gods? Only things of note standing out amidst verbal diarhea that is PoE's writing. Honestly not worth it.
>>382362491
You'll know 100%
>play Tyranny
>setting/premise is 1000 times more interesting than pillars
>somewhat interesting setup/opening
>game starts to feel rushed and start falling apart shortly after that
Why couldn't this be the one that got the big budget and tons of advertising? They put all their effort into the boring concept, why?
>>382362669
you sure got a lot of opinions for a guy who doesn't know shit. I feel bad for you
>>382356414
I bought Divinity along with Pillars during the Steam and other sales and both are solid in their own way.
Divinity is a real mixed bag, combat is great, but kinda easy to cheese. The writing is extremely tedious, it tries to be light hearted but it's just amateurish drivel most of the time. Worth checking out if you've got a friend to couch co-op.
Pillars of Eternity i'm still really on the fence about, combat isn't particularly compelling, the world only seems to be inhabited by merchants, quest givers and fucking horrid backer NPC's so it can feel a little disjointed and empty at times, self insert fanfic NPC's aside though it is really well written, but the gameplay connecting those occurrences can be really hit and miss. The Infinity Engine mod does improve things a little though.
Also worth checking out is Expeditions Vikings, it doesn't have the production values of either, but it seems to get the balance of combat, roleplaying and dialog just right.
>>382362875
Fair enough. I'll keep a lookout. I have to find Demonta still and I have a feeling that might have to do with it, or at least, after I put the unit on the next Tower.
>>382362359
not if you think it's boring
>>382362321
your posts are low effort shit
>>382362491
if I remember correctly, I had an energy weapons only guy, and the effectivesness of these weapons throughout the game was really spotty. sometimes they'd be great, but by the end I was stuck with something doing less damage per shot, in its 2 shots per turn, than a submachinegun firing 8 times or whatever. it's supposed to be good against heavy armour and robots I think, but it ended up doing significantly less damage than anyone else in my party, even against those things it's meant to be good vs
>>382356414
>What CRPG should I play next?
Divinity:OC
PoE is a hot pile of steaming shit
>>382363015
Ah okay. I've got no energy users on my squad. I've got myself on Assault weapons, another Assault, a Sniper, and a Bladed melee. Haven't had any trouble so far.
>>382363151
yeah those were all ok all the time I think. shotguns had really up and down effectiveness throughout, but not as bad as energy. maybe what I should've done is had each guy be skilled in 2 weapons
>>382363015
In the initial release Energywas shit early but by the end it was absolutely the best possible weapon, you could melt EVERYTHING in 1 shot due to everything having hig DR
The director cut makes it greath in some places and absolute garbage in other. Currently a few sniper rifles, a shitload of Automatic rifles and a few melee dudes(unarmed or blunt) are the best way to go. Assault rifle is simply too good in most situation.
>>382362976

not him but from what I remember in pillars it didn't matter if you were fighting lions, humans, or some other kind of monster. You always did the same shit regardless. I'd say the combat was really dull in both of them

I'm only a little way in and i've already had to start mixing shit up to deal with different kinds of threats and that fight with Raedric was a fucking master class in learning to deal with casters and shit.
The combat in Pillars can feel like a little bit of a clusterfuck to begin with, forever getting rushed etc, but the combat is surprisingly deep and incredibly satisfying once you start to wrap your head around what exactly is going on.
>>382369382
