I liked tanking in FFXI up until endgame stun and instant kill spam became the usual.

In FFXIV the gameplay isn't different enough from the melee DPS classes to give me justification to deal with the high amount of shitters that run roulettes. For endgame trials and raids I typically find enough people interested in being tanks and healers, that they can't find enough competent DPS.

Anyways, I think the issue lies on the devs to make tanking more engaging to make up for the responsibility that comes with it.

Yeah, I would've liked the melee portion of their attacks to be a longer duration sort of thing. It works well as a burst deal, but I think it'd have been a little better to have black/white mana be closer to the MCH's heat or something. Perhaps you start with 100/100, spells drain it down, and you build it back up with melee abilities instead of the melee being a quick burst of damage.

Either way though, the class is fun even if it doesn't match my idea for them.

The casters are actually pretty balanced right now. Although RDM is the most consistent at hitter higher numbers early on in an encounter's lifecycle because it's really easy to perform with. No timers, no dots, instant casts every other cast, simple rotation in general. You're going to mostly play every encounter the same.

Either brd/mch need to outdps nin, or nin needs to have less utility. TA is by far the best raid dps buff in the game after balance, and their aggro utility is useful in optimized clears unlike the mp/tp support which is only used in failed runs.

This is the only game where healers actually think dpsing is a good thing, while in other mmos, you only do damage if it's tied to your class mechanics, like with holy paladin in wow. I've dipped so low in a lot of fights cause some trash healer thinks they're being clever dpsing away while Im about to die. I've had to pop my pld bubble more often than in HW cause of all these either new players or bad players. Just concentrate on healing and stop trying to play two roles at once. Fucking geez.

How difficult/easy is NIN right now? I used to hate playing as them, but since MNK looks beyond cucked, I might as well.

Man i wouldnt have expected it but I just don't find SAM and RDM fun at all.

RDM is basically 3.x MCH damage and mobility with all the difficulty removed and the rotation basically plays itself most of the time. I mean there's a reason every single trailer/cutscene with rdm in it does the same spell > CAC melee combo > displacement > verholy/flare sequence - they're a one trick pony and thats literally all they do.

SAM i don't know, the basic combos to build sen feel really dull to cycle through, and it feels like they blew their load giving you midare setsugekka right off the bat and all the kenki spenders you get while leveling arent as satisfying.

They have one group wide damage buff that a lot of jobs get these days, a cure that is decent but isn't going to replace healing in an actual raiding scenario, and Raise which isn't a very unique utility either. The fact that they stand toe-to-toe with or go beyond BLM is in all likelihood due to their mobility, which is how it should be. RDM exceeds where their mobility shines. BLM will exceed where they can turret.

And SMN. Well SMN just keeps on whining because that's what they do best.

SMN's overall dps contribution would be pretty amazing within a high caster count group really even if melee still win. In a 1 caster group though, contagion is 2.5% overall magic damage assuming healers are 4k, it's +100 dps for SMN. Devotion is 5% attack potency on a 90s cd for 15s so that's like +20-30 dps.
