Today I found my first bear, and I wanted to ride it, but it attacked me and then ran off into a river and disappeared. I don't think it died because there were no drops to be found, it was just gone.

This DLC is great. I mean, it's the exact same game with the same empty world and boring soulless shrines and 4 shitty enemies over and over but now it takes 6 weapons to kill every enemy instead of 4.

10/10 would buy again.

You can the master sword buried deep in a mgic forest. It doesn't break but does need to charge.

Everytime you defeat a devine beast, you'll get a new ability as well as a weapon which can be repaired.

Most of the complainers don't realise that that the weapon system serves two functions:

1) It stops players from breaking the game. Because you can go anywhere and do anything, there's a possibility you'll get some high-end weaponry early on. But it won't last.

2) The game is thematically about survival and isolation. You're SUPPOSED to feel underpowered and always on the backfoot, scrambling and scavenging for survival.

Protip; find as many koroks as you can, they'll help you to expand you're inventory so that you'll never run out of weapons.

It just becomes a non-issue eventually. You'll be dropping weapons constantly to pick up even better ones. You'll have too many weapons even with 20 weapon slots.

The weapon system stays the same, what changes is you. Once you stop trying to hoard weapons and get comfortable with treating them more like ammo rather than equipment, the weapon breaking becomes fun.

And eventually, you'll learn where your favorite weapons spawn so you can farm them and they'll last long enough and you'll have a large enough inventory that you can carry a practically unlimited supply.

You start the game bare-ass naked. First weapon is literally a stick. You have to forage for clothes, hunt for food, cook your means, take shelter during storms, scavenge for weapons and clothes.

A hunger and sleep meter would make the game worse. Pointless upkeep like that just gets in the way of exploration.

Real time healing would be nice but it's limited by how much you actually want to go scrounging for food. Same with armor, there is no point in nerfing armor when the last 2 upgrades aren't necessary.

It doesn't have that kind of structure so I don't think it gets repetitive. I think a lot of open world games tend to use the setting as an excuse for level reuse. In BotW you mostly wander around and explore things, which are all hand-built.
