You're in for a very pretty, albeit very jaggy game. The music is excellent, the characters range from okay to really great, the story is good but there's a lot that's missing from it. The combat is very questionable, when it's good it's really fun to play with but sometimes it's awful, certain enemies are just not fun at all.

I enjoyed the game, if you're someone that's extremely negative then you'll probably hate it though, if you have an open mind you'll find it quite good.

The main continent has 1 city, and it's like 2 city blocks big. I'd say its about twice the size of Balamb (the town, not the Garden) in FF8, which is sad, because it's mostly filled with empty alleyways. They could have shrunk it down to Balamb size without any real issue. Of course then it would have just felt like one of those huge gas stations that truckers dine at, gamble at, and shower at.

The dungeons aren't as great as you're fanboying on about. Pitioss isn't even available until the end of the game and it's probably the only good thing about this game. Galdin Quay is so small it can be considered an outpost, Lestallum is a tiny tiny city, and Altissia isn't even part of the world map, as it is it's own area. Hammerhead is just another gas station/diner.

God awful combat. It's actually enraging.

-Flying enemies clearly weren't designed to actually be fought, though apparently there's some end-game gear that lets you just shoot them down. Trying to kill them with melee weapons is tedious and time-consuming.

-One of the worst cameras I have ever seen. PS2-tier camera that you basically have to fight just as hard as the enemies in order to win. The game LOVES pitting you against large enemies in enclosed or hemmed-in spaces.

-The game has a infatuation with damage sponges. There are multiple enemy types in the game that just have either absurdly high health pools or have natural resistances to EVERY DAMAGE TYPE which means your attacks do like half damage or some shit. Enjoy spending 20 minutes fighting a single enemy that isn't even a boss and will randomly respawn infinitely.

It sucks because just beneath the surface there's a great game but it's marred by a bunch of bullshit JapCrap game design.

I had to stop playing ffxv after about 10 hours. It's a genuinely terrible game. I cba to go into depth because I'm on my phone right now but virtually nothing about the game design or gameplay systems works.

The main points: the worst mmo quests I've ever seen, restrictive traversal for an open world game, brain dead combat stuffed full of animations that temporarily remove control of your character, dogshit ui's, lvl 50 boss in early game dungeon, character progression is unsatisfying, controls are inconsistent, the writing is okay but the scenario is just too amateur and bizarre to suspend disbelief, and for all the talk of the graphics I personally think the visual design is dull (except for the party character designs which are straight up dated).

Tldr: SE don't know what the fuck they're doing anymore. Budget jrpgs have clearer visions for their story and mechanics. The only reason we're even talking about this shit heap is because of the brand name.

Know how I know that you didn't play Nier? Couple of reasons, actually.

1. You don't get the spear until well after the halfway point of the game (even further if you don't know to get it, as it will likely be closer to 3/4 of the way through your first playthrough, and you may not equip it right away)

2. It's not Jump and Triangle. It's just Triangle.

Anyways, even if you want to call the Pheonix spear a cheese weapon (which wouldn't be unfair), you can't just start the game up and press triangle to win. Meanwhile, you CAN just start XV up and hold dodge until a counter appears to win at least 95% of the battles you will encounter throughout the game.

XV does not have the spell variety that NieR has. The spell variety that NieR has means spacing and mobility are more important than the spell casting in XV. Launching a dark lance (just one of the spells) requires you to be far enough away from an enemy to charge it up, aim, and release without getting hit. One could argue that this takes more tact than spamming triangle a couple of times away from an enemy, and then link striking.
