I have to say, about half-way through M3 it dawned on me just how much more fucked up everything about it was when compared to EB. Sure, EB had its spooky bits, but lots of pieces of media aimed at young audiences have bits like that, cause at the end of the day everyone knows that we'll get a happy ending. M3, on the other hand, is just tragedy after tragedy. Even if it has lots of humorous and silly aspects, I'd say that it's still overall a huge downer. Not that that's a bad thing mind you.

Yeah M3 is a real downer. Unlike a lot of games that try too hard to have the player feel something the mother series just does it naturally and so well. Itoi has said the scenario was MUCH darker on tbe n64, one quote he said that always stuck with me was "the main character would betray the player" when describing the originak ending. Does anyone else become violently ill/autistically upset whenever they see some moron spout bullshit like "LOCALIZE MOTHER 3" at Nintendo in fucking 2017?

Like, this is my favorite game of all time for the past like 8 years or so, and I think I'm fine with more people experiencing it, but you'd have to be fucking retarded to want a localization. Not only would the localization just fuck up the game so bad, but the fan translation is beyond fucking incredible (insanely faithful, fixed bugs in Jap release, discussed localizing decisions with fanbase, etc.) and with 100 times more effort and heart than anything official would ever be. It's all these bandwagoners that act like this is still something that needs to be 'fought for' over ten years after the fact, totally ignorant of the greatness of the fan translation and the accessibility of the ROM.

People will call you a hipster or and autist for not wanting something to get popular, but this is why. An abundance of new fans leads only dilutes the general quality of the fan base and the reputation of the piece of media. Like, fuck, earlier I even saw someone demand to NoA on twitter to 'fucking release Earthbound64 already, too." Like fuck all these new retards man.

Yup. They went ahead and removed all references to the Mother franchise because of AM2R getting C&D'd. Nintendo never contacted them or anything, they just did it.

The sad part is Nintendo only C&D'd AM2R because they had already been developing Metroid: Samus Returns during the time that was released, and didn't want the fan game to detract from their sales. They literally wouldn't have even bat an eye at Mother 4.

I seriously fucking hope someone who worked on the game makes a patch to re-add the Mother stuff. I've mostly lost interest in that shitfest of a game now without that only redeeming piece.

Mother 3 is a fantastic game and it can stand on that alone. We don't need more extravagance for a game that really doesn't warrant anything like that, even more so considering the themes of the actual game. Plus, the series isn't even neglected anymore, we're no longer in 2008. Earthbound's on VC and gets promoted to hell, Eartbound Zero ROM is officially released to the US (!!!!), and they get copious amounts of fanservice in the smash games.

It was your official disconnect from that world.

As in, the whole time you're playing the game, you exist (hence the parts talking directly to the player and even having you input your name). You're following Lucas along the whole time through his journey. Then, in the end, with all the pins pulled and the dragon free, you yourself are disconnected. You're gone from that earth. It's bittersweet, but it's a real send off telling you "You were there, you helped, but now you're gone."

It's hard to put in the words, it's just something you feel.

It's like the game itself is telling you, "Good job, you really helped. Thank you. That is all."

There's quite a bit of non-linearity in Mother because the game's so loosely designed. EB is a lot more structured but less fun as a result.

It is pretty cool how you can beat the game with just about any party. The only required party member to get is Loid, he has to fire the rocket to clear the rocks and start the boat on Holy Loly Mountain. You can beat it with Teddy if you skip the house and even with just Ninten if you want.
