You gunna buy one?
>>
>>382277620
Yes, even if I have to buy it from a scalper.
>>
already bought one

gonna be fun to use SNES controllers again
might go through every game and then resell depending on how the paunch pans out
>>
I would like one if i can get one. Not paying above retail for one though. Also thought about just getting a sd2snes cart instead.
>>
>>382277620
>are you gonna buy an emulator with 21 games for $80
nope
>>
>>382277620
Got my preorder from Nintendo's website. Didn't even think preorders on Nintendo's website would be able to sell out. Sold out 60 seconds later.
>>
It's gonna be sold out for the next 10 months so no
>>
>>382277872
Show me how to emulate Star Fox 2.
>>
I value it as a collector's item of something that is particularly nostalgic to me. I doubt I'll be able to find one but I'd pay retail price for it. And I'd just keep it in the box, since I'm not retarded and can emulate all those games on my PC with more accuracy
>>
>>382277620
Yes, it looks like a lot of fun
>>
nah. I was going to buy with the exception of earthbound, I realized I have all of those games physically already. Oh, and starfox 2, obviously. Not much room for me to buy one. Everything I'd want from it is gonna be ripped and shared around within hours/days of release. I'm looking forward to having digital manuals in a high quality.
>>
>>382277994
Once it's dumped, sure
>>
>>382277620
Already preordered two.

Will play one and hack it and the other one I'll keep pristine in the box and sell when I'm 80, poor and need money
>>

When you waddle your enormous bulk into the store to buy your plug and play toy, and out of the corner of your eye you see a group of girls giggling at you, think of me.
>>
>>382278906
I have $80, I just struggle to find a reason to spend it on an SNES classic. It has less games than the NES classic, though it's a lot more good ones at least, but the cords are still rumored to be short), it's still using wiimote adapter ports, it's still just an emulator on a small chip, it's just not worth $80 no matter how you split hairs, unless you REALLY want that authentic experience, in which case you're gonna want to buy an actual system with actual controllers and actual games. This stuff pleases normies but anyone who likes emulation will just emulate, and anyone who wants an authentic experience will go and get a real console. This serves no one but the same people who buy those at@ames monstrosities, or parents who buy those "500-in-one atari games!" sets for their kids. Only they're shipping in such small numbers that scalpers get all units, and it makes it impossible for those normies to get devices.
>>
>>382277620

No I have 2 real snes and about 20 games for them. If I want to emulate I just load BSNES on retroarch and use my Wii U Pro Controller or plug my Wii on my crt for 240p.
>>
>>382279343
>in which case you're gonna want to buy an actual system with actual controllers and actual games
I'm gonna play devil's advocate and argue that buying the games emulated by the mini would be much more expensive than $80.
>>
>>382279714
Exactly but if you want an authentic experience that's what you do. Playing on HDMI with a bunch of ugly ass filters with tons of input delay (if it's anything like the NES classic, at least) is some of the furthest you can get from authentic.
>>
I own an actual SNES with two controllers and a copy of Super Metroid. It is literally the only reason I bought the console. There was a Metroid drought.
I did what I had to do to survive.

I had a super everdrive and it just wasn't worth it in the end. Even on a real CRT, the picture quality that an actual SNES produces just isn't up to par with what emulators have spoiled me with. There's so much radio static and other imperfections like the vertical line that diminishes the picture quality

I'd take bsnes + crt filter any day of the weak over a real SNES. It just produces a better quality image. If you disagree, you don't know how to configure your filter properly

If we were talking pure logic, no one here would choose the SNES Mini over a nice Raspberry Pi set up. Once you play both side by side there's just no contest. Pi rigs are amazing. Tons of graphical options, multiple save states, nostalgia themed front ends, cheats, and every SNES game ever made, including tons of hack, homebrew, prototypes and more.

But what the SNES Mini is really doing is selling people back a piece of their youth, and that's priceless to most people

Plus people are lazy. The average Walmart shopper doesn't want to take the time to figure something out like the Pi, most of them dont' even know it exists.

Pi has quite some input lag, you know that right?
>>
It always pissed me off that the PAL SNES kept the colored buttons but NA got that purple shit.
>>
Speaking of emulation, where is the best place to download roms en masse?

I really need to establish my emulation library for classic games but I don't want to be downloading them one at a time because that would take forever.

>>382282945
Not for me, try installing some USB drivers or freeing up ram for kernal and OS usage

It's very cool but I won't be getting it. The Mini-series of consoles isn't marketed for me, I've still got all my old systems and games.

And I imagine SF2 will get another re-release since the Mini-series is more or less like Disney's vault.

About the same as the NES Classic.

It'll be interesting to see what the Switch's VC ends up being

Maybe I'm way too optimistic in thinking they'll let you access their entire VC library as long as you pay their online fee

you're right, there's nothing wrong with wanting a finished product, but the issue was implying that doing it yourself with a raspberry pi is inherently inferior or a waste of time, which is far from the truth in the case of emulating 4th generation consoles. as for the quality of controllers, it's really not that hard finding something on par, if not even better, with what Nintendo can do after wading through the garbage ones. my issue isn't the money either or how people spend their money in the slightest, especially since an SNES Mini would generally be cheaper (assuming you never end up paying a scalper's price) than setting up a pi if you don't already have the USB controller/sd card/etc.
>>
>>382283326
Yeah I agree with you.

The biggest news (in my nerdy opinion) about the SNES Mini is that the games using Super FX are apparently out of copyright/patent hell.
>>
>>382283167
dang, the classic NES has way less than retro pi.
you make a pretty fair point.

I still would not pay 80$ for something that can only play a couple games instead of buying a retro pi that can play any retro console game
>>
>>382282319
enjoy your official input lag
>>
>>382283547
That's the original nes, not the classic
not sure how much the classic has
>>
>>382283529
Personally the only thing in this for me is a momentary nostalgia buzz, which just isn't the same with emulators. Of course I could emulate something I wanted to play right now, but I've played those games billions of times and I really have no interest

But to open a SNES box that's actually made by Nintendo, undo all the wrapping plastic, hook it up to the TV, the entire thing is this experience that only they are selling. And yeah, for such a fleeting moment of nostalgia that is sure to wear off after about an hour, it's definitely not worth it, and there are far better options. But, if you're only looking at it in terms of practicality and functionality, I think you're missing the point of the thing. It's more than the sum of its parts, basically

this thing pisses me off because I'm poor

Indeed.

>>
>>382282675
>because that's what these are for. to play.
No they fucking aren't. They're to stick on your desk to show everyone how much of an epic nerd you are, with your shitty plastic SNES and your Bazinga T-shirt. If the people buying these things actually cared about the games, they'd being playing them already.
>>
>>382284553
not that guy, but if i buy an original snes for like 12 bucks (like I see them all the time), and puit a flashcart in it

Will there be input lag or will it be like the real deal even though it's playing off an sd flashcart thing?
>>
>>382284803
This, sadly. The only people buying this to legit play them are like Generation X people in their 40s/early 50s that never got around to starting a video game collection. Everyone else, especially the people with hardcore collections, are buying these to look cute on their coffee table, scalp, mod, etc. since they already own 90% of the games on the SNES Mini or already have dedicated emulation setups.

why does this thing doesnt have street fighter 2 turbo or DK 2?
>>
>>382285075
I can't say for sure, to be honest; however, the hardware would be native, which is the whole trick of good emulation.

My assumption would be that it'd work just like a regular cart.

there will be no input lag as long as you play on a tv that natively supports the snes's video output. the lag from emulating 4th generation consoles comes from trying to run that shit upscaled through an hdmi cable and all that.
>>
>>382285979
Yeah you definitely want to find a nice CRT to play on. SNES games and its contemporaries look just great on them.
