People make this out like it was a major thing. Alvin was ALWAYS playing his own side in the Schism mess of Xillia's plot.

First time he betrays you he plays it off because he's just sending carrier pigeons. The second time he's basically threatened and told he's scum but he sticks with you because Milla is the solution to his personal problems as Maxwell incarnate. The third time he betrays you he knows full well Millia is fraud and everything was for nothing the whole time so he doesn't hold back shooting Leia when she gets in the way.

Alvin rejoining in the finale is just because he had nowhere left to go at that point and regrets shooting Leia by mistake to get to Jude.

Honestly, Anise is still the worst. She acts like a bitch the whole game and her betrayal actively fucks up the flow of the plot even when she knows you're trying to solve the world's problems. Alvin's flip flopping is more realistic because he gets progressively darker and more desperate as the story continues. Anise rejoins the party and she's still the noisy bitch droning on and on about Ion.

We call all agree that Luke is the best and most well written character, right?

From what I recall they basically let Alvin stick around despite knowing he was fishy at best and outright working against them at worst because they figured that he'd be less of a threat to them that way than he'd be if they told him to fuck off.

Pic related, on the other hand, is treated way better by the other characters than the stupid fucking asshole deserves.

I don't count it against her because it's specifically the antagonist's plan to exploit her vulnerabilities and drive her deeper in to despair. If it were just a byproduct of the plot happening (think Jude's tantrum after Milla's death) I'd understand, but it's a calculated effort to destroy her mind.

She's not stupid and has good sense, as shown by her catching Eleanor with Eizen. When she's not directly faced with Artorius, the plans she comes up with are generally solid and she has no problems executing them. I consider her fairly competent.
