in the 41st-42 millennium, the Primarch of the Ultramarine (the blue ones) got brought out of stasis and his slit throat was healed an the poison in his veins got counter-acted. Then he an one of the head guys in the machine cult set up a program to upgrade the Space Marines further.

To keep things from seeming too good, Cadia got blown up, and now the Eye of Terror (a literal portal into super-hell) now stretches across the entire galaxy. And a new god is finally getting started (the last time a god was born caused the Eye of Terror).

And more Tyranids are coming. And the Orks are getting more fightyer. And the Necrons keep waking up.
