Even then it's uncomfortable and gives you lessened control over the analog stick. You have to wrap your hand around it so your middle finger is on Z and your thumb is on the analog it's awkward.

Depends on the game, like 2D games vs. 3D ones,
L&R - D-pad, 6 buttons and 2 shoulders
C&R - Stick 6 buttons and 2 shoulders
L&C - D-pad, stick, 2 shoulders

Winback is a really fucking fun little game. Dunno shit about Hybrid Heaven though honestly.
