There wasn't always a Hl2RP Gamemode. A long time ago, DarkRP framework was our Hl2RP. You didn't have the fancy schematics and such that you do today. Everybody made it work though, it was awesome.

I remember playing post-seven hour war on HK back in 07. It was alot of fun, everything was leading up to the cities, etc. Had uprisings, etc.

We had one where the CP's actually had a beating quota. Any slip-up and you'd get beat. CP's as a faction had power, just as they should.


I remember Relentless, Slidefuse, Parter, ShitRP,TnB, Sunshine, JalebRP, JB and CarvRP. All different communities, and all eventually fell.

I remember Stan, too. He'd come visit the server and people would just be like, 'oh.. hi stan.'. He was bad about DDossing servers. Eventually he got locked up for Child Porn.

City 8 is way over played. C8 was released by Taco N' Banana. At it's release, alot of communities switched over to it. you couldn't find a server than ran C18 or C45.

C45 had what alot of maps didn't, and that was that the buildings were more reminiscent of Half-life two's atmosphere. A map shouldn't rely on darkness to create gloom. That's what the players are for.

Well I still actually have the Advisor character, as the server is still up. I'd use it to talk to the higher ranking on the server, City Administrators, Councilors, Sectorial Commander and the likes. I spoke to them about if they failed I'd kill them and replace them and what not, lots of politics involved. I play the Advisor from time to time just to sit about and watch OOC chat, sometimes talk to CA about City affairs.

A very long time ago, about 05 or so, I was playing on CS:S.

I forget what server I was on, but some guy was advertising cheats. So I added him out of curiousity. He brought me to a Russian jail server, and told me to, 'watch this'.

Then spawns Gman and Alyx. Alyx is on all fours, and Gman is humping alyx. The whole server was in an uproar, just laughing and micspam.

I've never seen anything like it since. I've mentioned it a few times, but nobody I know ever saw anything like that happen in CS:S. It was weird.

It really depended. The last bighuge ones were Infusiongaming, which was my personal favorite of the major Fallout RPs, and The Spire, which had a fucking garbage map and generally even worse admins.

Most of the time they wound up being more like Wild West RP than anything. Only one or two actually featured New Vegas, which was kinda alright with me

I had a server with a 12 year old admin. He went nuts, tried forcing other commanders out of their positions and making his group the only playable faction, and around the same time an admin let a hacker into the server and tore the place apart. People complained, they were both banned.

They were both given their roles back after they said they were sorry to an admin in private, like nothing happened. The server died a literal week later.

Taco N Banana was great when it first launched, this would have been I think around 2007-2008. Then that tranny faggot took over, all the original admins and good rpers left and the server has been mediocre since.

The original crew at TnB left and created Necropolis around 2009, which was the best RP server in the history of gmod. Unfortunately a low playercount led to the server and website eventually being shut down.

SST RP will always be my favorite though. The original one which was started on TnB and moved to Necropolis.

I found a rare spacebuild RP server that was pretty fun to grief.
It had a whole host of shitters, furry admins, autismos standing around a 1x1 plate tweaking E2 for hours on end, etc.

The best thing was partnering up with another guy who was good at E2 and happy to use it for mischief.
The server had a system where props and welds cost money, you could get money by RP and also mining the asteroids and ice out in space, then selling to NPCs. We used the Advanced Duplicator from Wiremod to spawn our own ice-crystals in the base and rake in cash for hours. We would build ships that would turn invisible, then you would use specific ball-socket settings on every prop so that it remained rigid, but the ball-sockets let the props pass through the map.

We would just fly around blasting people, invisible, unable to be shot.

I still have my advanced duplicator file of a nice little hovercar I made to nocollide into bases on construct servers. I miss that, even if I was one of the kids that made rp impossible.

The big issue is it's mostly kids. It's not really people who want to roleplay, it's people who want to play cops and robbers with guns and scream to the admins if they lose. I played DarkRP a ton when I was young, and I never saw much roleplay outside of sales transactions and muggings.

The other issue is that it would be really boring with it totally unstructured. Everyone wants to be something interesting, no one wants to be random civilian victim #4. In the far future when AI can take over the mundane roles unless someone wants to play them, it might work better.
