They Bleed Pixels (Not so much a horror game as it is a platformer, but has a real Lovecraft vibe running through the whole thing)

House of the Dead 3 & 4

Dark Souls series (Lots of options for character customization, can be male or female. Also not strictly horror, but enemies and environments can get very unsettling)

Silent Hill 3, Resident Evil 2 Claire, 0 with Rebecca, Code Veronica and 3, Fatal Frame series, one with Rose or Roses in name, forgot it but always wanted to try it, Dreadout (just found out about it days ago), Parasite Eve 1 and 2, Dino Crisis 1.

The Cat Lady has a pretty creepy and depressing atmosphere in which most characters are female. I enjoyed it the first time I played it; you should give it a try.
