If it's your first tales, don't bother.

As for story progression goes, it goes from 2 hours of boring, then it really picks up, then near half way you're sick of fucking walking everywhere, then you get to an area that gives you better mobility and it starts to get good again with character development and plot progression, then it drips back down and near the end that's when things get really good.

Then you never play it again because the geoboard isn't at the start of NG+ and fuck walking everywhere

The combat isn't as deep as DMC but it is quite fun. Exploration and OST are pretty bland, but these are normal for Tales games. I really like the cast tho, might be the first Tales i actually finish since 2014.

Each character fits into a typical JRPG character archetype though I would say they each have a bit of a twist on that archetype that makes them feel fresh. But the real thing the game has going for it is how much chemistry the cast has between eachother. Also don't forget who is number one.

I think the thing I most liked about her character was that she wasn't really hyper obsessed she was with keeping up an edgelord persona. Obviously she was apathetic about a lot of things, and was emotionally guarded a majority of the time, but it didn't stop her from rational, reasonable and at times even caring.

You know what Action RPGS really needed?
More fucking menuing.

In this game, gear management is fucking huge.
Each piece of gear has a learnable skill, so you're holding onto old gear, and using stuff you normally wouldn't, just to learn skills
gear also has random abilities, so two pieces of gear that are the "same" actually need to be weighed against each other.
No you can;t just hold on to all your gear, you have to actually decided what's good and what isn't because you have a maximum inventory space.
gear can also be upgraded through a menu, which requires you dismantle other gear to get the materials to do so. In a menu.

Unlike other Tales games, having a b&b combo isn't that important because targeting a bosses weakness is very very important, which means you'll be in the menu in the middle of battle customizing a combo in every boss fight.

There's also a expedition system to get free stuff that's done that you manage through menus that you'll be messing with every 5 mins because that's how long in real time it takes for your expedition to come back.

Don't worry about making a bread and butter.
Just look at what the weaknesses are for whatever your fighting and make a new combo that targets those weaknesses.
For ordering, only put arts that end with your character airborne at the end of a combo, because they don't always chain properly when put in the middle.
