the director talked about that in an interview recently.
Basically, he felt the first discs story would be a poor place to end it, and given there was no guarantees to a sequel, he might never get the chance to tell the story the fans wouldnt walk away from with a sour taste in their mouth.

On the same note, however, because most of his team was new people with extremely limited knowledge of 3d systems and most of them where learning on the job, they fell behind the scheduled and with the release date coming up, square told him he had to make a choice. Finish the story any way he could or just ship the first disc.

He chose the only option he felt he could produce to finish the story and not betray the fans. He made the tough call and honestly, im proud of him to have done it and be open about it.

I started playing it, but it was like 1 hour past and was still scrolling through dialog, character introductions, story and stuff.

I dropped this somewhere around the desert because I didn't really dig the battle system. Does the combat get better or is it just kinda mediocre all the game? What do people think of it in general?

i'm playing through this right now, at the Tower of Babel
i've barely used Elly at all, she has nothing but the first deathblow, am I fucking up?
i haven't really gotten the opportunity to switch out party members without getting locked in

The combat seems really simple and boring, which makes it a chore to playthrough. I don't know if I'm gonna finish it at this rate unless it seemingly gets better over time.
