BEST
CASTLEVANIA

But that's not Aria of Sorrow?
Killing that faggot with nothing but punches is great.

Worst Castlevania ever.

What do you here? Is this worded right?
>>382248178
It's old english, but not really used anymore.
>>382247027
>not using the red rust on him
>>382248789
"What do you here?" is not grammatically correct in any context you turd.

Is SotN the most kino game ever made?

I don't know what you're up to, but I'll have no part in it
Best 3d Castlevania - Curse of Darkness
Best Classicvania - Castlevania 4
Best Metroid like - Portrait
Castlevania 64 was not a bad game. Stop shitting on it.
>>382249048
Like Father like Son.
>>382247218
>old games using pixel sprites is somehow bad
so this.... is the power.... of the millenials
>>382248667
>Not using the Tyrfing
Go hard or go home. You know, by map warping and shit.
SotN is the only game I have replayed more than twice. Every other game I rarely replay after finishing them.
>>382249362
*blocks your path*
>>382249526
I love SotN but how the hell do you find it more replayable than AoS when only one has you go through the entire game a second time but upside down.
SotN also lacks any serious challenge which can make it feel mundane and like you're just going through the ropes any repeat playthroughs when you have the progression figured out.
>>382249589
hurry up move outta the way i gotta get to the bathroom
>>382249859
*slides behind you*
Nothing personnel kid.
Castlevania on the x68k is FAR superior.
Does Castlevania games offers character building and replayability by being able to play the game drastically different from the first time by different weapons, upgrades, leveling or other stuff? If so which ones does it best?
Asking this because the last time I played one was ages ago and it was the original NES one.
>>382247142
>castlevania
>not castlemania
This is the real bestest Castlevania
>>382250226
The Metroidvanias generally have new characters or gameplay modes to play after you beat it once.
>>382249859
Would you buy a Haunted Castle machine, /v/?
>>382250493
Name three games, in the series, that follow suit with this.
Does Castlevania have any good fan made games or hacks?

OOE, DOS, POR, AOS, HOD, SOTN, COD etc, etc...
>>382250728
>>382251021
You know what, the New Game Plus link sucks, my bad.
Circle of the Moon gives you alternate gameplay modes that change your stats and starting tools after you beat it, and the Sorrow games give you alternate characters to play with.
Which are some Metroidvanias for PC?
Already played all the big ones
>>382251406
Axiom Verge is really good and Ori and the Blind Forest although it's more of a 2D platformer than Metroidvania per se but still a really good game that you should play regardless.
>>382251406
Literally all of these.
>>382251751
>SotN in holy trinity over Aria of Sorrow
>Hollow Knight in god tier instead of great
Is this bait?
>>382251751
>tfw already played all
Feels bad man
>>382247218
you need to learn the definition of pixelshit
>>382246920
is there a no exp gain mode or something? why all of them didn't do it like OOE is strange.
>>382251751
Good list from what I've played, but I'd probably put La-Mulana in "good" tier personally. Too many shit moments.
>>382246990
This.
Bumping with kino.
>>382246920
Aesthetics are great, but gameplay is god-awful. It's probably the most offensively easy metroidvania I've ever played. The whole thing is more of a toy than a game. Of course, it has nothing on the original CV or CV3.
>>382249362
>>382249589
swiggity swooty coming for that booty
>>382252939
Got anymore? Looks nice, I think there was one of him in the far right tower of the castle overlooking the moon.
Can you change the controls in Lecarde's?
>>382253261
Yeah I have a lot of SotN ones, not sure about the one you're talking about specifically but I'll see if I can find it.
>>382253175
fucking play Castlevania Chronicles already
>>382253261
Is this it?
>>382253971
Castlevania x64k you mean? Why bother with the updated port when the original is just fine? The only thing you need from the PSOne port is the soundtrack, which you should just download.
>>382253462
I still remember using the duplicator + power of sire against that enemy to grind familiar levels quickly.
>>382254329
No but it's still good. It was in the area with the elevator that goes crashing down and if you went to the bottom there was a telescope you can look through
>>382251751
>La-Mulana 2
I will beat it without guide this time, I swear!
>>382254345
Are you seriously going to download an emulator for one two disk game when the port not only has that game, an arrange mode, and great OST?
>>382255004
No you won't and to be honest I don't think anyone has.
>>382255004
There aren't gonna be any guides this time, buddy. At least not for a while.
>>382255057
What's the point of playing if you have to use a guide for everything? Doesn't sound fun.
>>382255052
You don't have a fucking sharp emulator? Akumajo Densetsu isn't the only wprthwhile exclusive on it, you know.
>>382255198
For /v/ credit obviously.
>>382255203
And you don't have a PS1 emulator? There's more for it.
>>382255198
The Remake CAN be beaten without a guide, but certain puzzles, like the mantra puzzle, are gonna be pretty rough to try and parse out given what the game gives you.
It's pretty much impossible to beat the 2005 version without a guide.
I enjoyed Lords of Shadows 1 and my first Castlevania was the original NES game.
Fight me.
>>382255057
Fug after seeing that map now I really wanna play that game, is it good? I don't care about difficulty I am pretty skilled at platformer shit.
>>382255395
Is the game even fun, I absolutely adore Metroidvanias but everything I hear about La Maluna just sounds intimidating and not fun. I'll sometimes make rough maps with pen and paper on Metroidvanias but I don't want to be talking notes like in a college class for a video game which is what it sounds like you have to do in La Maluna.
>>382255294
The original doesn't have porting artifacts, runs at a proper aspect ratio etc. etc. etc.
>>382255609
It's not nearly as bad as people make it out to be, it doesn't even really get cryptic until the end game.
>>382255475
You also enjoyed sucking your uncle's cock. Am I for some reason supposed to fight you over it too?
>Crissaegrim
>Alucard shield + shield rod
why even play?
>>382250481
Nah it's not the best. But it's damn fucking good tho.
>>382251751
ESA should be in god tier
>>382251751
Put Axiom Verge into good tier
>>382250481
All of the GBA and DS Castlevania games were great except for HoD.
>>382246990
ive only ever played this one
please dont tell me this is where the game peaks
>>382256384
Don't diss HoD. While isn't that great as the others is still a pretty good Metroidvania.
>>382256426
>Please don't tell me Aria of Sorrow peaks with Aria of Sorrow
What did he mean by this, no seriously that makes no sense.
>>382256384
HOD was good, Juste is fast as fuck.
>>382256513
>>382256612
I just said it wasn't great. I would replay any of the other games anytime, but never HoD.
>>382256612
He also has good taste in furniture
>>382256734
What game do I need to play to play as the one second from the left?
>>382247142
worst Castlekino EVER
>>382255609
It's fun. You should be able to get through a good chunk of the game without a guide depending on how patient you are. I think around the halfway point the map opens up so much that you have so much to work with that it isn't worth the effort any moreand you're right, its not fun when you're reading a guide so thats when I dropped it
>>382256828
That's Loli Maria. She was in Rondo of Blood with Richter.

I feel you anon. Never could play HoD on the 360 cause I had no friends that were into Castlevania, and now I don't have my 360 and its not on Steam
Life is suffering
>>382257082
>>382257059
That game is more in line with the older classic titles than the Metroidvania titles right?
More importantlyis it fun?
>>382257790
I believe it was the last stage -> boss -> stage -> boss Castlevania game.
>>382257790
It is. Give it a try
>>382257790
It's one of the best Castlevanias.
>>382256378
It is in Good Tier. Stupid.
>the maximum weeb tier animu designs on those 2 DS games
What were they thinking
I mean for fuck's sake it's not even good weebshit it looks cheap as fuck
>>382256543
i mean the castlevania series
>>382255395
Mantras can easily be brute forced as long as you understand frontside and backside.
Beating the La-Mulana Remake without using a guide isn't that difficult. I played it for the first time last year and I honestly think the difficulty of the game has been overblown. It's tough and cryptic but not impossible. You just need to pay attention, devote a lot of time to it, and not give up when you get stuck for a while.
The only thing that is legitimately impossible to understand without a guide is Hell Temple.
>>382258608
I think it's the best because of the simplicity and tight controls. All these animation cancels are just limitless fun for me.
But most games of the series are great. It's definitely not a definite peak. Most would probably say sotn is the best.
>>382255609
Just started playing it
It's tough but in a fun way. You might need to jot some notes for some riddles but mostly you can play it by ear.
I like Lords of Shadows story but why did they have to make it a god of war clone /v/? Why?
I legitimately appreciated Draculas story arc. Its good. Haters gonna hate but hate on what it did wrong.
>>382246920
But that's not Circle of the Moon.
>>382249170
>Best Classicvania - Castlevania 4

It's a soulless game
>>382262830
FOR YOU.
>>382263542
Not entirely sure what I just watched but the art direction in that game looks like shit compared to other titles.
>>382264589
it is
>>382264589
>>382264996
Early GBA had shitty back lighting, something that made playing COTM kind of a pain in the ass. To "fix" this they made everything garish neon for COTM
By the time aria happened nintendo fixed this shiit

It's hard to make a compelling game and stealing from stuff that's successful is one way of managing it. Lament of Innocence wasn't exactly unique either.
LoS2 shat the bed in more than a few ways, but the first LoS and MoF had some redeeming qualities.
>>382267278
Cave Story is not a fucking Metroidvania, you mouthbreathing turd.
>>382267907
Yes it is you fucking dingus.
>>382247218
>>382247231
fuck off kids
>>382249718
Is there any romhack or something to make the game challenging? It's true that it feels pretty menial and mindless most of the time. I want to feel in danger.
>>382267834
Albus is the most underrated extra character. Fun as fuck. Dabber looking goth motherfucker.
>>382251751
Pretty cool list... But a very underrated god tier game (and free) is missing there...

I played that years back, forgot it was a metroidvania. I keep meaning to replay it so I can add it to the list.
>>382255395
>pretty much impossible
Why? Is it actually impossible or just extremely difficult?
>>382251751
spent most of today playing this. might be a new contender for the list.

I really liked the DS castlevanias, OoE looked really good, but the early stages were a bit offputting.
>>382269981
That's really not a metroidvania at all.
>>382269981
I like dead cells but besides some fun combat it has almost nothing going for it and I doubt even the finished product will deliver anything in terms of music, level design or even story.
