As for getting into the series, no. The best is release order. If you play this game, it'll spoil stuff from DR1 and DR2.

Basically the best order is DR1, DR2, then DRAE: UDG, watch the DR3 anime (alternate from both Future and Despair episodes), and then wait for DRV3 this September.

Using the mouse and keyboard controls makes the game hilariously easy. Although I'd argue that's to it's benefit because any difficulty in the Vita version came from the shitty controls. Other than that I'd say it's my favorite DR game if only because DR3 was the straw that broke the camel's back for my interest in the series. DR2 was really pushing that line as it was, honestly I'd probably have quit it then if it wasn't for Hopeman. I think for me, it's less that DR3 is the worst, more it's what finally burnt me out of it. I think I said earlier in the thread that DR2 was almost my breaking point with things like "mindhacking" so DR3 pretty much finished a job that was already 99% done before it arrived. I still like things like the art style and the characters, plus even if the writing insufferable at times, I blame that on the setting being way better than what the writers are capable of delivering with. Rather than just being outright bad.

I think it's justified to be skeptical or lose interest from here on, DR3 was pretty damn important to the rest of the series since it was both a backstory & conclusion to the first 3 games so since it was shit it kind of tarnishes the rest of the games plot wise. Basically the games only have their gamepaly to be interested in and while that was an important part of the series, the gameplay relied heavily on the plot also so if you're not enjoying that then you're basically going to have no drive to continue this series. That being said if you still enjoy it all the power to you, but be more understanding as to how something as big as DR3 can really turn people off from this series.

Shit is probably a strong word to use but it certainly lowers the quality of the other entries to people, it makes it feel like a lot was pointless to them since they tried figuring out this mystery with these characters they liked & died/thought died, so I think it's completely justified to lose interest or be skeptical of later entries in this series, especially since while it was only "1 installment" DR3 was important to the overall plot of all the previous games. If DR3 wasn't that big to the overall plot of the series then this would be whatever and I would agree with you, but it isn't.
