I was tempted to get a copy of Sun alongside my copy of Moon if only to have more box space so I didn't have to keep remembering that I have a Pokemon Bank account that needs to be renewed each year, so I don't care if the main story/trial/island progression is pretty much the same, as long as there are general improvements. Right now there isn't really any information.

Warm-coloured clothes being exclusive to Sun and cool-coloured clothes being exclusive to Moon better be fucking gone though. I care more about that than I do about battle facilities. At least make getting other-version clothes through festival plaza not such a fucking abhorrent experience.

Pokemon peaked between late gen4 and gen5. We had 3 great games in PT, HGSS and BW2. Gen6 had a good start, I liked XY much more than I liked DP. Compare Kalos to Sinnoh, Sinnoh arguably had a worse start in DP, but Platinum completely redeemed it. The problem with Gen 6 was that it lacked a good third version in Z and Gamefreak rushed out a half assed remake ORAS which really dragged down that generation for me. After ORAS I was still stupidly optimistic to believe there will be a "Pokemon Z" or "Delta Emerald", a game Gen6 deserved, but no, Gamefreak didn't learn their lesson and rushed out another pair of game in SM just to meet the 20year anniversary deadline. Such a shame! BW2 is a much better game to celebrate 20th anniversary than SM does.
No wonder I spent much less time on SM than all the other pokemon games.

I hadn't played a Pokemon game since Pearl. For some reason I heard about SuMo and was getting hyped. Went out and bought a N3DS and everything.
Bought the game and couldn't fucking stomach it past the fire or grass trial depending on what came last. It took way too fucking long for anything to happen and it honestly felt like one big tutorial. Most trainers seemed to have three pokemon if that.

It just felt really fucking empty, plus I couldn't ever imagine replaying them because they're bogged down in cinematics. That same complaint for me lies in XY and ORAS, but felt far more offensive in SM.

It also doesn't help that all the new and interesting pokemon has horrifically low spawn rates, some new mons you could get on the first island couldn't evolve until the very last island, and at the end of the game, 98% of the new mons were shit minus Toxipex, UBs and Tapus.

That was the only fight i'd lost in Pokemon SP since I was a kid in Crystal. All because whatever Pokemon I was forced to send out was one I hadn't healed up and was at a third of its' life.

Nope. If you fight every trainer and nothing else with one pokemon that pokemon will be overleveled, but that's the obvious end result of essentially power-leveling one pokemon. But that's if you refuse to use any other pokemon in battle.

Pokemon has always been a shitty cashgrab game where features that should be in the game to begin with are saved for a deluxe edition. This should have been obvious since the second games, where a female player was only added in the third version, and is amplified in the fourth "generation" where the third version gives you single player content worth giving a fuck about and fixes the horrendous Pokedex.
The series barely ever changes, and it's obvious when they get so many releases using the exact same engine and can be split up by generations instead of being worthwhile successors. Most of the games are either alternate versions, remakes so you play the same shit over again, or overglorified DLC. The only ones somewhat exempt from that are the 5th generation and 6th, where the former lacked a rehash, and the latter was stuck with a barebones version, which is still bad since it should be complete to begin with.

In generations 2-5, Exp Share was a hold item you could give to a Pokemon, and it would split up Exp gains and give some to the holder even if they didn't participate in a fight (and give an even larger fraction if they did).
As of gen 6, Exp Share is a key item, sort of like Exp All in gen 1. But whereas Exp All simply divided all gained Exp among your party evenly, the new Exp Share spawns more Exp out of thin air, so the Pokemon who defeated the enemy gains the full amount (100%), while every other Pokemon in your party who didn't participate in taking down that opponent gains half of that (50%), and also the full amount if they did also participate. So not only do you get more Exp than in previous games if you switch a lot, having the Exp Share turned on and keeping a full party ensures you gain at least 3,5x the Exp points. (Of course, that's not *entirely* accurate in gen 7 since they re-introduced the scaling Exp gains from gen 5 where lower level monsters gain more Exp from higher level opponents and vice versa, which gen 6 had mysteriously dropped).

It's so scummy. I used to be able to wait for the third, definitive version but then they fucked it with X/Y so I was thinking maybe they wouldn't make "Sun/Moon 2" but then they did.
X/Y needed a third version just like Sun/Moon needed one, I just hope ultra actually adds good post game and improve the story.

I know that everyone around me will despise the new games, especially anything after gen 4. But I love the monster designs of 1, 3, 5, and 7 a lot, so that makes me interested, and because I always enjoy Pokemon games anyway (they're very similar and always have the same combat system and basic progression style) so I buy it. Inevitably most others do as well, hate it for whatever reason (e.g. their favorite bromon isn't there, nothing to do, too linear, etc.) complain, then buy the next one anyway.
To sum it up though, yeah, both.

The dialogue is actually fairly minimal for a JRPG, with the only large clumps of it at 3 points (beginning tutorial section, Burnet's Lab, and the ending section, i.e. the shrine of the moon/sun to Lillie leaving).
The reason people think it's long is because instead of just "talk to NPC to progress the plot" like most RPGs do, it's "walk into radius of NPC and they forcibly initiate progression," which makes it awkward and less smooth than most other RPGs.

Character wise? Yes, she was one of the better ones, as she appeared as a prominent character in the most story centric Pokemon games to date (even moreso than BW). Too many Pokemon characters are either one and done's or have no relevance at all.
